    1. Lewis did age better than Liston. You think he should be penalized for that. I don't.

    2. "I think the big difference between Lennox and Liston is Liston fought the best fighters of his generation in their primes"

    There are other big differences

    A. Liston didn't defeat the best fighter he fought, and indeed lost badly twice. Lewis did defeat everyone he fought.

    B. Liston's generation is quite a bit shorter than Lewis' generation. Every top man Liston defeated was from the 1956 to 1965 era. He defeated one champion who reigned from 1956 to 1959 & 1960 to 1962, and who suffered a devastating ko defeat in 1959. His other major victims were contenders of the same period-Machen, Folley, Williams. Lewis defeated one of the top two heavyweights of the eighties (Tyson), one of the top two heavyweights of the nineties (Holyfield), and one of the top two or three heavyweights of the last decade (Vitali). These men were recogized as champions off and on from 1986 (Tyson) to 2010 (Vitali). The men Lewis defeated simply had far more impact on the heavyweight division than the men Liston defeated.

No offense, but pretty vague evidence. What do you think Liston's real name was then?

Anything is possible, of course, but the census evidence points to the early thirties.

But it doesn't matter if Holyfield and tyson were far past there primes, which they were. Lennox did not defeat these men anywhere near there primes, so this takes signifigant weight off the victory. Liston defeated Patterson, Folley, Machen, Williams all in there primes. Also, Vitali has never established himself as the man of the 2005-2010s era. Wlad has.

Who did Lennox ever defeat that compares to a Prime Muhammad Ali? In fact, what great heavyweight in there prime did Lennox ever fight?

    1. Holyfield was still capable of beating Ruiz and Rahman years later. When discussing Wlad's placement in history, these men or men who beat these men were supposed to be very positive accomplishments. Frankly, why would one expect the Patterson of 1962 to defeat the Holyfield of 1999. Nor would I consider him a good bet against Vitali.

    2. "Who did Lennox ever defeat that compares to a prime Muhammad Ali?"

Who did Liston ever defeat who compares to a prime Muhammad Ali?

Ali seems beside the point as Liston lost to him so badly. It is hard to believe Lewis at any point in his career (even 2003) would not have done better.

Holy didn't beat him. he split 36 rounds with him. Ruiz was beaten easily by two ex middleweights. Let's face it, ruiz is not that good.

I would absolutely take patterson over holyfield in 1999. In fact, I might take patterson over any version of holyfield. Holy didn't have the punch to threaten patterson, and floyd's combinations were faster, crisper, and his boxing technique was better. Holy might find himself being tatooed by floyd in exchanges.

Floyd, with modern benefits/nutriton/supplements at around 220lb would embarrass vitali. Floyd is so much better than vitali as a skilled fighter. so much better. Watch the films.

It doesn't matter, since Lennox never beat a prime muhammad ali. Liston did defeat an ATG fighter in there prime, Floyd Patterson. Lennox never beat a great fighter in his prime.

Losing to Muhammad Ali 2x, is nothing compared to getting knocked out twice by one punch to B level fighters. That is embarrasing. Lennox's losses to rahman and mccall are far more damaging than listons losses to Ali. this is undeniable.

Sorry mate but that's nonsense. Lewis didn't get KO'd by McCall. The Rahman Ko was legitimate enough but damn you can't compare either of them to Liston's losses to Ali, different ball-park.

you're right. the Losses that Lewis has are so much worse considering Ali is so much better then McCall and Rahman. Who would you rather lose to? Arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time or those guys?

Lennox had so much shake in his legs in the Mccall Kayo he could have passed for a chicken dance participant. His eyes were glassy, legs were finished...the ref saved him from a brutal knockout.

I'll say it again...losing to muhammad ali while past your prime is nothing like losing to Hasim Rahman and Oliver Mccall on one punch knockouts while near your prime.

None of Lennox's wins compare to Ali.
Although Lewis does have a great resume and career, just wish he could've fought bowe

Doesn't determining what counts as a "great win" entail as much "guesswork" as evaluating a fighter's H2H ability? Presumably, achievements have a lot to do with quality of opposition, which is something obviously related to the ability of the opponent.
