Is there any heavyweight in the world today or even in the past 25 years who can rival Wlads defense?
For the past 8 years or so, he has (arguably) been the hardest man to hit in the sport. His defensive prowess is right up there with his formidable offense. ATG left hook, right hand, and jab for sure.
His defence use to be good , but he's old now and and his defense as well as offence is nothing what it used to be
which suggests his defense was lacking if he was on the deck.... Wlad hasn't been on the deck in a decade. :deal
He has a huge size advantage over his opponents, a very long and hard jab and hugs/grapples illegally at every given opportunity, effective but not sure it constitutes an 'incredible defense'.
Yup,he has most of the time size advantage and since he cant fight on the inside,he just clinches small guys till they get tired. But since noone gives him a warning or deducts a point till 10-12th round at least,he continues doing it . Also he leans on opponent`s backs and pushes their head down.Again, this is not defense and no...clinching is not part of the game, its more than simple clinching when fighters are very tired in the later rounds or badly hurt. He does that from the first bell till the end,he reached out to grab Povetkin in 1st round 2;59 min.
He's a spoiler, it's not always pretty but he is very effective. But he isn't slick, he simply either stays out of range or clinches. Lewis had better upper body movement making him harder to hit when in range when not clinching but clinching is more effective than trying to slip shots. But yes Wlad's defence, as it is, is impeccable.
Yes Wlad's a spoiler, but an assertive one. Wlad lets you stand at range and take his shots. Then he doesn't spoil. As soon as you one gets close to him he will spoil and assert himself "You're doing what I want, not what you want". He's good at what he's doing, no doubt. He breaks opponents wills and the jab and grab approach.
