Yea now imagine other eras, how bad would they have been if the #1 and #2 fighters weren't around?!

How terrible were the 30s without Louis and Schmeling?
The 50s without Marciano and Oh my, there wasn't anyone else!
The 60s without Ali and Liston?
The 80s without Holmes and Tyson?

The #3-10 fighters of the last 10 years could well compete in other average eras.

 

No problem with that in theory - the only thing that I can't stomach is the repeatedly clinching. If Wlad could put on a clinic without resorting to doing the octopus grab, smother and lean to avoid being hit I'd find his fights far more watchable. For me it makes the fight far too stop-start and not fluid enough for my liking - but, it works and no one has or will come close to beating him anytime soon, so he's no reason to change.

 

Do people find Wlad boring? Go watch his fight vs Ibragimov and then tell me he's boring.

Lewis 1-2 was more rougher in it's delivery, in fact he took more risks and was probably more confident close-up due to the fact he was well versed on the inside. Wlad doesn't have that particularly luxury which is why he systematically grips like a vice grip as soon as someone comes in. I think it's indicative of the Eastern-Euro system he was brought up in.

I know it's a cliche bring Lewis into a Klitschko but it's a fair comparison taking in their physical makeup and approach to the game.

You forget that Mormeck was faster than Tyson, but otherwise pretty much the same.

 

Wasn't Lewis deducted a point for holding Tyson in round one or two? I seem to recall that.

 

You missed my point though. Lewis always clinched and forced his size and weight upon smaller opponents, I was demonstrating his ability to bust it up on the inside if he needed to.

Oh yea there's absolutely no doubt about that. I fully agree.

But then on the other hand knowing that he's good on the inside made him go into inside brawls with guys like Holyfield of Mavrovich -- guys who were much smaller than him and should have been dominated from the outside and clinched on the inside. Instead Lennox' cockiness allowed these guys to make it into the fight.

True, it's quite funny that's what made those fights entertaining. The brawling in the Mavrorich bout and the Second Holyfield fight. I think Lewis knew his limitations well but he was a fighter inside.

 

Sounds like he wants to continue 'schooling' his opponents. The Rigo fans should really like Wlad's fights sure they would agree.

As the champ the challenger has to come and take that belt from you. No need for Wlad to change his gameplan, I just wish there would be someone who could actually push him.
