I'd put Wladimir Klitschko in the top 20 of ATG heavyweights
    Key facts about him:

    • First lineal heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis
    • Longest reigning titlist since Joe Louis
    • 24 title defenses, with a streak of 17 defenses
    • 62(52)-3 record with an 80%KO
    • Wins over David Haye, Tony Thompson, Ruslan Chagaev, Sultan Ibbragimov, Calvin Brock, Chris Byrd, etc.
The other impressive things about him is that his the first ATG heavyweight fighter who is good precisely because he’s flawed. Because he has a weak chin and problems with stamina, Steward rebuilt him as an outboxer who clutches whenever his opponent attempts to get inside. He also has the sweetest jab since Larry Holmes, and a killer straight right.
Klitschko never ducked anyone, fought the #1 contenders (and he’s doing so again), and did it all with class. The only thing I count against him is that he never fought his brother—but hey, family is more important than my need for entertainment value.

Klitschko’s last loss was 10 years ago, and since then he’s been downright dominant. In actuality, he’s not even the same fighter. Emanuel Steward completely changed his style.
Beyond that, if we’re saying that losses to less-than-stellar competition invalidates a fighter from ATG status, then maybe we should discount these fighters:

    • Mike Tyson (lost to Buster Douglas)
    • Max Schmeling (lost to Gipsy Daniels, Larry Gains, Jack Taylor)
    • Floyd Patterson (lost to Joey Maxim)
    • Lennox Lewis (lost to Hasim Rahman)
    • Jack Dempsey (lost to Jack Downey, Fireman Jim Flynn, and Willie Meehan)
Keep in mind that these losses happened either in these ATGs primes, or before their primes.

Don't think he is, he's arguably been unlucky the only decent HW in his era's been his brother. But the level of opposition has been fairly ordinary and the highlighted wins or Haye, Tony Thompson etc doesn't suggest to me he's a top 20 ATG.

Would also of been penalised a lot by ref's if he fought away more with his clinching / holding.

wow, when a nearly 40 tony Thompson is your highlight (whose age and level wouldn't be considered an opponent for a world title in any other era) then you know you are examining paucity.

wlads not really an atg. hof yes, atg cant really happen now for him, hes been at a commonwealth type of level for too long. to call him atg at world level is insulting to past atgs, it takes the ****.

if you consider his real defences, they amount to perhaps 2 or 3. that's not the stuff atgs are made of, that's the resume of bit part titlists.

Just by numerical defensives of Heavyweight Title,he has to be !! All-time top 5 Joe Louis record defenses same as Wlads. Oppents records same same. Just longevity of his rule. Why hasn't AMERICA PRODUCED a fighter to beat him? Because they CANT!!! Or the rest of the world!!! Why punish a man for being from EASTERN Eurrope.

For what he's accomplished, Vlad is due to be in the Top 50 ATG list, so top 20 is way too high for someone who over his whole career has fought a string of nobodies.

Top 5 heavyweight. Second longest reign in heavyweight history so far, youngest superheavyweight Olympic gold medalist at age 20. Defeated underrated Chris Byrd and won his first pro title in his early twenties. Had some defeats but got a new head trainer in legendary Manny Steward and completely altered his style and actually learned an effective defense to compliment his amazing offensive skills. Wlad's been an unbeatable terror for nearly a decade now and has fought contenders from all over the world both in Europe and America. Slaughtered gifted fighters like Olympic great Chagaev and extremely fast and dangerous David Haye as well as slick fast boxers like Chris Byrd. Those who don't rate him highly are generally jingoistic Americans who as Jim Lampley recently admitted believe the heavyweight boxing title belongs in America, almost like a birthright. His massive ring I.Q., incredible mastery of boxing technique, two fisted power and uncanny speed for such a huge heavyweight are also underrated as he has for many just the wrong skin pigmentation.

He is a top 10 heavyweight.
As for you listing Max Schmelimg losses to Jack Taylor and Larry Gains (who had a big weight advantage on Max) is kind of unfair Max was still a teenager.

For beating a long string of bums, in a boring fashion and single handedly killing the HW division, Top 50 HW.:good
