This is an unauthorized jacking of an intelligent question posted by a poster in a discussion about past and present greatness on another thread. This question is being made a thread because it was such a good question concerning in a round about way how much greater the Klitschko's are compared to fighters who are already in the hall of fame. I understand that Wladimir will make the hall of fame. I see him like a baseball player with 3000 hits, he is a automatic lock in that regard. So, in your oppinion, if you think the HOF is revelant, do you think that any of Wladmir's opponents are worthy of the hall of fame?
None and i honestly believe Wlad will not be inducted either. Greatness is about who and how you fight , not how many times you fight. If he beats Povektin and the other top ranked contenders around now then he will probably will.

The only HW Ring awarded fighter of the year since 1997 is James Toney. That says it all about the talent of this era's HW division.
Based on IBHOF practices, and past form, I will say the following. Wlad himself will be inducted as soon as he is eligible. It is possible that none of his opponents will be inducted, but the following are possibilities. Hasim Rahman might be inducted based on his win over Lewis. The other wildcard is the cruiserweight division. Depending on how the panel value unification at cruiserweight during that period, Haye and Mormeck might just be inducted due to their records at cruiserweight. Of course many fighters on the list are still active, and can make their case.
Yeah, Janitor is right, Haye might get in but probably won't, Rahman is at this point closer but may not and Wlad is a stonecold lock.
janitor , you know what they say about greatness. If you go up against a great and lose then you are not a great. Wlad was turned over 3 times by guys not even hall of fame worthy. Whats greatness to you? Is it some blind statistic on paper? Because that alone will not get him inducted into the HOF. DM, lineal LH champ with over 20 defences. His face wont ever be hanging on the wall. Frazier, never dominated. HOF and ATG.
statistic's will show he never won fight or fighter of the year and never gave the sport a great fight or performance of a champion. He wont be inducted for the amount of times he fought after winning the belts against undersized nobody's. You need to broaden your imagination on this matter.
I've yet to see a boxing writer (who make up the IBHOF voters) state that Wlad is not worthy of the HOF. In fact, I've seen a number of boxing writers state that Wlad isn't just a hall of famer, he's an all time great. There's no question that he WILL get into the HOF. There's also no question that the less accomplished Vitali will get in. I suspect that Haye will get in too. Mercer has an outside shot.
Wlad will get in. Vitally has a good shot. Haye might, based entirely on his cruiserweight career. Hell will freeze over before Mercer gets in.
Vitali is a beltholder only because he wont fight the no.1 and Wlad is champ because he doesn't fight no.2. They changed the rules but the rules wont be changed for them. Wlad brought no exposure to boxing , instead he got it banished from HBO and the home of HW boxing -MSG. He never won a fighting award or is reconized for putting the sport on the map. When he retires he'll leave nothing to be remembered. Having an shallow run of defences is not enough and has been proven so in the past. You need to look at the broader picture and cease being so textbook.
I would argue that Wlad's title run is every bit as impressive's as Holmes' run, and there was never a question or debate that he was getting in. Wlad is the dominant heavyweight of his era, and has had one of the most dominant runs at any weight of the last 10 years. That alone will get him into the HOF.
Holmes went undefeated and lost past prime to an ATG. The names on Holmes record are far better than Wlads and he was relevant and fought world champs in 3 generations. He fought fight of the year and is known to posses arguably the best jab in the game. Whats Wlad known for? A a big punch? Rahman had a big punch.
