I just checked. Douglas was rated # 7 by Ring Magazine when he fought mike tyson and max schmeling was rated # 2 by ring magazine when he fought joe louis in 36
NO! entering the wladimir fight, sanders was UNRATED. ONLY AFTER he beat wlad, did he jump up to the # 3 spot. In fact I just checked a bunch of my ring magazine articles from 2001-2002 and none of the annuel lists had him top 10, and NONE OF THE WBA IBF WBC WBO SANCTIONS HAD HIM RATED IN THE TOP 30!!!!!
[/QUOTE] 3 knockout losses to unrated opponents near his prime is a big deal! its my opinion how can i be biased against a fan I am a huge fan of and defend? I am a huge wladimir klitschko fan. the wlad of the 1990s was one of my favorite fighters of all time, the next joe louis i used to say. I think vitali klitschko is the most overated fighter of our era....but make no mistake about it I love wladimir Klitschko. he just has more to prove to me.
His jab went from a snapping hammer to a lazy paw. His right hand went from a sneaky menacing weapon to a exagerated telegprahed forced punch, and his left hook which formed a dynamite two punch combination in the 1990s is now non existent. I wouldnt pick many h2h over wladimir of the 1990s. In fact I think the 1990s wladimir beats tua, ike and possibly knocks out lennox. wlad was the # 1 rated contender 2001-2002 and lennox wanted no part of him. I still got the ring magazine articles from 2000-2002 calling lennox lewis out to fight wladimir. vitali certainly doesnt have a shot against a 1990s wlad. wlad did everything far better than his brother. wlad was a two fisted assasin in the 1990s the most talented superheavyweight i ever seen that got leverage into each punch, and was unbelievably aggresive . once wlad got his 3 biggest flaws exposed......his chin, his stamina, and his mental frame......he panicked and changed his style....because he does not want to get his chin clocked again. the only dangerous puncher he fought since was brewster and peter, brewster knocked him out and peter nearly did the same flooring him 3 times. lets see what happens when this version of wlad faces a dangerous puncher...who will test him mentally. Wlad to me is one of the biggest waste of talents i have ever seen......but he still has time with top young talent coming up out there to improve his legacy...
You said he ranks 42nd, so I'm gussing that number isn't plucked out of thin air. Any chance you could post that heavyweight list?
Ok here is 41 in no order Joe Louis Muhammad Ali Lennox Lewis Joe Frazier George Foreman Jack Dempsey Sonny Liston Jersey Joe Walcott Rocky Marciano Floyd Patterson Ezzard Charles Mike Tyson Evander Holyfield Riddick Bowe Elmer Ray George Godfrey Gene Tunney Max Schmeling Max Baer Sam Langford Harry Wills Joe Jenette Sam Mcvea Jack Johnson Jim Jeffries James Corbett Peter Jackson Ike Ibeubuchi Pinklon Thomas Tim Witherspoon Razor Ruddock Ron Lyle Jimmy Young Kenny Norton Larry Holmes Archie Moore Cleveland Williams Ingemar Johansson Jack Sharkey Harold Johnson Ernie Terell There is 41 for you rated just below wlad are underated Studs like Lee Q Murray eddie machen zora folley david tua
Those in green should not rate higher than Wlad. In general they have a worse winning percentage, were Ko'd by more often, didn't have as good as a title record, and would likely be losers in a head ot head match ups vs Wlad.
just curious by ur standards....gene tunney had 8 career heavyweight fights.....why does he rate over wladimir but not walcott schmeling charles patterson?
Not to nitpick but are KO percentage and # of KOs really irrefutable reasons to rank one fighter over another? LaMar Clark needs to be in my top 10 heavyweights then, and Greb isn't going in my P4P top 100 anymore.
How about comparing, winning percentage, KO%, and record in title bouts vs fighters who have made it to the championship level? Here, Wlad outshines many alphabet, linear, and x champions. Clark only beat Grade D competition. This article I wrote, before Wlad beat Ibragimov and Thompson back sums it up. ( add two title wins, and up the % ) Who are the This content is protected all time 30 heavyweights? You can pick your own. I'll list 30. Odds are we have matches on at least 20 names, and likely 25 names. I'm not here to debate any order, moreover just agree to a general consensus on the names. M. Ali,L. Holmes,J. Jeffries,J. Louis,S. Liston,G. Foreman,L Lewis,J. Dempsey,R. Marciano,R. Bowe,E. Holyfield,M. Tyson,J. Frazier,J. Johnson,V. Klitschko,G. Tunney,K. Norton,S. Langford,B. Fitzsimmons,J. Corbett,P. Jackson,H Wills,E. Charles,J Walcott, F. Patterson,M Schmeling,J.L. Sullivan,T. Witherspoon, and I.Ibeabuchi Now that we have the names out of the way, I'll get to my point. Is Wladimir Klitschko on his way to getting on this list? Let's examine. Current Winning percentage: 94.00%. 6th best of the listed 30 fighters KO Percentage:85.17%. 3rd best of the listed 30 fighters Heavyweight title bout record ( Alphabets included ) 8-2. At the This content is protected of the list in terms of total wins and percentage of wins. Some may roll their eyes at counting alphabet title defenses. Coutner point. Is a guy like Brock any worse than say half of Louis, Ali's, Frazier, or Holmes title opponents? I think not! Amount of times KO'd. 3 times. Only 13 of the 30 fighters have been Ko'd less. Many traditionally higher rated fighters were Ko'd more often, and in my opinion by lesser punchers. Size: Few were bigger Hand Speed: Few had faster hands Skills: Few had a better jab,,hook, right hand from a tecnical standpoint. Power: Few hit harder. Wlad has KO power in both hands Less bums: Wlad fought very few fighters with losing records All over 200 pounds: Wlad has always fought heavyweights. No color or geographical line: Wlad has never used the color line and has fought the best fighters from all over the world. Is Wlad on his way to making a This content is protected 30 all time list? I listed 30 very good fighters. He rates well. I think so! >>Wlad is near top 20 now, having won a title unfication bout, and beaten 2 more contenders.
Such a shame we have blatant, blind Wlad Klitschko fanboys here like SuzieQ :-( Anyone with an objective mind would see that a Povetkin win would launch him from #42 to #37, not #36. Remember there are studs like Zora Foley and Cleveland Williams with better wins, fewer losses, more years in the #1 position and a better overall career.
It doesnt matter who was kayoed less. it matters when the kayoes happened. Most of those 30 guys were taking on top fighters regulary week after week, and in that kind of gruelling schedule you can EXPECT some losses here and there. also, how many of the 30 guys on the list suffereed 3 knockout losses to UNRATED oppoonents near there prime? like wladimir klitschko?
