He was a great fighter, was a H2H beast, and he had a great career. I didn't like the holding and certain things he did but I absolutely loved the pre-Steward version of him and I've always felt a sense of affection for him because I first saw him fight in the 2000 Olympics and it was during those Olympics where my love of watching amateur boxing stems from. I was seriously impressed by him in those games too - I remember thinking his jab was amazing. It's pretty incredible what he went onto achieve after suffering those devastating 3 loses earlier on in his career. I've always respected that about him. There's often a fine line between winning and losing and he came so close to beating AJ when he was years past his prime. Retiring is the sensible option as he has nothing left to prove (he spent most of his career proving so many wrong and he achieved so much) and he had a very long and hard career.
They didn't forget , they just never knew how to begin with. Steward - "Not wanting to belittle anyone, but the [Ruslan] Chagaevs, the Lamon Brewsters, the Sam Peters -- all these veteran-type guys -- they're very predictable, no real burning ambition. To me, the confidence, the ambition, the burning desire of a fighter is a lot more dangerous than that of an experienced fighter." The reigned over the worst bunch of non athletic scrubs the division ever produced and got toy'd with by the highest skilled guy his own size he ever faced. HW version of Felix Sturm.
Why don't you back up your own drivel? The burden of proof is on YOU. Who are all of these guys that Wlad avoided then and more importantly where's the PROOF that he actually avoided them?
Who was he ducking? In any case, it's still an amazing accomplishment that is very rare in boxing. No amount of spin can diminish that.
You're calling him the HW Felix Sturm but attempt to shield Wilder from criticism simply because your forum rivals are critics. Dude, you're a complete and utter joke.
I wish you could have some class for one god damn day, but obviously that's never gonna happen until the great day that you die.
The proof is in his record. Turned pro in 1996. Didn't face the #1 in the division till TEN years later. He only became successful when the division descended into nothingness and moving to Germany where to could cheat box bums for the following 10 year.
The last line let me know that this is Dino - although correct me if I'm wrong and it's one of the forum's other loons - despite me having him on ignore.
A fight with Lewis was never a realistic proposition . They were never on course because Wlad was a protected non factor at the time. Even his promoter Kluas Khol is on record saying Wald needed easy fights.
