We've had the era debate before.

Wlad and Potvetkin are very good-great HW's.

    What about the rest?

What I'm saying is, as a whole, today's division is weak, and it's been like that for a while.

Aside from Wlad and Povetkin, the top 10 is nothing to shout about.

Wilder is universally recognised as the 3rd best HW on the planet. And for what? He looked awful last time out, and he's only wearing the WBC belt because he's beaten Stiverne. And who did Stiverne beat? Arreola for the vacant belt. I don't care about belts and paper statistics. If Wilder is considered the 3rd best HW on the planet, then today's HW division is poor.

I'm a big fan of Fury's. I know all about his family heritage and I've been watching him since he turned pro. He's a great character and good for the game. But as yet, he's done nothing. His biggest win was against Chisora. Yet he's universally recognised as the 4th best HW in the world.

Then we have Pulev, Jennings and Stiverne.

Even a 43 year old Tony Thompson is in the top 10.

Yet you have a problem with me calling it a weak division?

Most of the guys in the top 10 haven't had any noteworthy wins.

He is more than that. He is one of the most decorated, skilled boxers in the world and would be a threat to ANYONE. He is just unlucky that he fought in an era of 6'6 + giants with questionable refs.

Would you say that Lewis era was a great era?

Have to agree with this. I enjoy his fights. It's a pity about the Wlad fight, but unfortunately clinching has always ben a part of boxing and Wlad takes it to the limit. That said, the tactic isn't a magic bullet, and certainly there are ways to deal with clinchers. Golovkin played nice games with distance against Murray for example, and lit him up when he tried to clinch too often. I'd like to see Klitschko - Povetkin 2.

Era ain't over yet. He is punching with a lot more power I beleive is the only man who could beat Wlad. Nor do I think this owuld hurt Wlad. If Povetkin won and they had a reubber match, it would tie the two toghter as greats the same as as Louis-Schmeling, Ali-Frazier, Graziano-Sale, etc.

I like Povetkin, and I'd love to see him fight Wilder.

    Hopefully it will happen soon.

It depends how you personally define great. In my opinion it was. For me, the 90's had some great fighters, and it had a lot of depth.

I could imagine guys like Morrison and old versions of Foreman and Holmes having success today.

Check out these ratings by the Ring from 1991:

    Holyfield
    Tyson
    Bowe
    Ruddock
    Mercer
    Foreman
    Witherspoon
    Tucker
    Lewis
    Moorer

    Happy days.
