Holmes likes Vitali, in fact he said that Lennox was afraid of him after the fight.. too afraid to rematch.

You do have a point in that a lot of people tend to confuse boxing with mindless violence (if that's the point you were trying to make) but I hope you weren't suggesting that Tyson fought on a low technical level cos that's flat out wrong.

I think Tyson got respected for everything he did in the ring in his short but very sweet reign, most Tyson fans don't try to defend his actions outside the ring, I certainly wouldn't anyway - in fact it was his stupidity and thuggish behaviour that obviously led to his downfall.

Also I think Lennox was given full respect when he was active, the disrespect from certain sections of fans (you know who they are) only came when he retired.

I wasn't saying Tyson fought on a low technical level, just that much of his admiration grew from his brutal KO's of low level competition and his thuggish behaviour rather than his boxing skill.
Lewis was clowned on through much of his career due to his 2 KO losses to lesser competition (many glass jaw references) and apparent homosexual demeanour. He was often called boring in (safety first) and out (never been arrested for DWI and subsequent assault of arresting officer) of the ring.

I know what you are saying with that.

It seems over time Lewis' unpopularity is sort of becoming seen as disrespect. While some disrespected him, most just didn't care for him...he failed to strike a nerve in the US while he was active. No matter though, he's earned his place in boxing history, and his longterm popularity has been steadily improving since his retirement.

Unpopularity and disrespect are different.
For a present day illustration...WLAD KLIT is disrespected and ViTKLiT is unpopular.

I don't wish to be disrespectful here because me and you are pals as far as I'm concerned but how old are you?

I'm old enough to remember that Tyson didn't display thuggish behaviour when he won the title - he was a nice kid back then (and that's all he was remember, a kid, 20 years old) he made the odd silly comment but was basically OK until the Givens thing, D'Amato and Jacobs dying etc etc it's all well documented.

I'd like to know why you think all his brutal KO's were low level opposition though. Look at boxrec and you'll see that argument doesn't hold water. Forget about comparisons with WALDO just look at the stats of the guys he faced back then and give the man credit for what he did at such a young age.

Wlad fights in the worst era of HW's ever. While not his fault, he has also suffered a few KO defeats against very MEAGER competition.

But he's seen as the best HW today, and easily the most talented. Yes he has his detractors, but has fanboys who still claim he's the greatest ever.

In the end it all evens out...so wtf do you want?

Relax man! I meant Austin not Chambers. Always mix them up.

And I stick to my opinion of them being bums with the exception of maybe Byrd and Sanders. Same goes for fighters such as Williamson, Moli (great!), Nicholson, Castillo etc.

Check out his resume on Boxrec, Dude! http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=007035&cat=boxer

Maybe you should know the facts before posting a reply.

It does not necessarily mean that one is great if undefeated. It is about the opposition that these guys faced, the way they move, ring-generalship etc.

Taking that into consideration only Byrd and Sanders are good.

What makes Thompson great or Moli, or Brock.

I could tell from the very first minute of them moving in the ring that they are B-fighters and just canonfutter

If you think these guys are good boxers then I dont wanna know which ones you see as bad...

They are cleaning out the heavyweight divison. They can't fight everyone at once, they have to fight their mandatories, they are trying to fight for "all" the titles. They both work very hard in the gym, plus, look at their amateur accomplishments. Vitali was a six time kickboxing champion, both amateur and pro. WBO, WBC champion, world military champion, world international champion, etc. Vlad IBF, WBO, IBC, champion, 1996 Gold Medal, superheavyweight division. World military champion, etc. Anyone who knows anything about boxing can see their hard work, skills, talent whenever they fight.

No disrespect taken. I'm over 30 and I followed Tyson's career from about 86 on. He was my favourite fighter growing up and the main reason I got into boxing. I agree that the thuggish behaviour began after he won the belt for the most part though he always had the stories about his thug past with him and that added to his allure.
His string of spectacular and often viscious KO's to begin his career were over low-level competition, and it was the brutal nature he won those fights, and not his technical prowess, which earned him great exposure in 86.
His brutal KO's were basically limited to low-level opposition. Spinks was a great light-HW but not a true HW and Holmes was past it, Other than that Bruno was probably the highest-level guy he spectacularly KO'd.
My intention is not to demean Tyson or his accomplishments but rather to show how boxers are easily forgiven for their flaws if they can produce drama outside of the ring and brawls inside of it.
Tyson was far from unbeatable but his early career blowouts and late career scandals left a lasting impression on many boxing fans, so much so that they forget his biggest win was over Michael Spinks.

I got into boxing a bit earlier than that, I'm obviously a few years older than you

You could have a point though, I grew up on Ali even though I was only a kid when he was right at the tail end of his career. When Holmes came along I was saying "well yeah he's good but he's no Ali" then Tyson and it was "yeah he's exciting but he can't box like Holmes and he only beat him because he was over the hill" then Holyfield "yeah but I'd still rather watch Tyson" then Lewis who I actually appreciated probably due to patriotism.

Maybe in future as you say WALDO will be appreciated for being WALDO instead of being compared to who went before him, but his fans don't help matters on that front with some of the crap they spout - and I know I'm not blameless on that front either but what can I say, it amuses me :hey

**** even I'll give the guy his respect if he keeps it up but you'll never hear me say he's better than Lewis was, and I still think prime Tyson was hell for anyone, especially someone who fights like WALDO. I think he'd have given Lewis a hell of a fight too but Lewis will obviously be remembered as the better fighter overall.

I still think you're being a bit harsh on Tysons comp too, Spinks was his most impressive win but I don't think he was the best fighter Tyson beat.
