You think it had something to do with Sam Peter's pitiful condition the night he entered the ring against vitali? Peter was a godly out of shape 254lb. Peter was much trimmer, in much better shape for BOTH Wladimir fights.
Yeah, **** Wlad for not knocking him out fast enough! **** Wlad for not being more impressive! **** Wlad for using the uppercut everyone has been bitching about! **** Peter for not being Joe Frazier!
Uhh, did you really see the fight? Wlad was up on his toes in the 8th, 9th and 10th. He had plenty in the tank and wasn't afraid to use it. He looked cool and confident, enjoying the task at hand.
Well I dont think it can be said any better than this: http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2310/klitschko_pummels_peter_has_no_rivals_outside_his_family/
Yea I saw it clearly, and I thought he let his hands go well in rd 2 but then he started throwing one -punch at a time and fall into a clinch in the middle rds. If you read my whole post you will see that I said it was a good win but Vlad is not a combo puncher in the class of a Joe Louis but then again not many are. He went up on his toes for a spell and I thought he was going to do the Ali shuffle but it was not until Manny yelled at him that "this fight can go the distance take him out" and the ref went to Vlad's corner and said" let your hands go" that he did just that. I think he could have took Peter out much earlier and so did Manny and the Ref but I think Vlad was careful not to run out of gas but that may be a good thing for him because he had that experience early in his career vs Brewster and Purity. I think Vlad has learned from his mistakes and has improved and has been dominating and I have seen a few new punches in his arsenal but I would love to see him put a 3-piece together more often. There was a moment or 2 that Vlad was relaxed and let his hands go nice but other times when he got into a hug-fest-wrestling match with Peter.
Well, when you got a winger and zinger like Sam Peter tossing leather from every odd direction, you gotta be a bit cautious not to walk into something.... Aside from a jab, Peter has never thrown a straight shot down the pike in his life..... MR.BILL
Maybe something to do with the mutual showing against Sanders and Purity and Vitali's, his better chin and the more relaxed/confident demeaner in the ring. Excellent showing by Wlad none the less
Boring fight. Booth-Molitor was way better. I watched it in the boozer though, so i'll need to give it another peep, in fairness.
I read Molitor really struggled a lot early on. Haven't seen it yet. Did he look like he's not got a lot left?
Not every heavyweight title fight can match up to "Ali-Frazier 3" or "Liakhovich-Brewster" for Allah's sake..... Too bad I missed "Dempsey-Firpo" back in '23, I was busy doing other things at the time... MR.BILL
Well it wasn't so much that Molitor struggled, more that Booth did really really well. It's also the case that the whole time Booth was banking rounds, Molitor was working the body. He was basically outlanding Booth in these rounds (or close to it) but a lot of his punches were sneaky body shots. So even though he lost the first part of the fight, that's where he won the fight, by the looks. Molitor looked grand. Just to reiterate, this was viewed form a stool at a very noisy crowded bar, so excuse any inaccuracies.
The quote from Ring Magazine sums it up: QUOTE] No other heavyweight would be given even the smallest chance of beating the reigning heavyweight king, who has won 14 consecutive fights and has rarely been tested. The same is probably true of Vitali Klitschko, although one must assume that age will take a toll on him at some point. “No one is going to beat these guys,” said cruiserweight titleholder Steve Cunningham, who plans to become a heavyweight. “We’ll have to wait for them to retire.”[/QUOTE]
Top 12 seems high to me, even if he beats Povetkin/Haye. It's just hard for me to rank someone with a history of mental weakness and panic attacks along with the likes of a Holyfield. Wlads chance of achieving greatness rely on continuing to dominate everyone and longevity. Obviously if he keeps this up we will have no choice but to acknowledge his place among the top 10-12 all time. Perhaps my favorite thing with Wlad is that he stays busy, nearly having 60 fights in todays heavyweight division is impressive. I want to see Wlad against aggressive punchers with quality head movement and speed. There seems to be a shortage of these in the division today, Chagaev had some of the necessary tools but due to various reasons he couldn't execute like the Chagaev of old. Povetkin isn't really a great scalp for Wlad to nab. He's not a puncher, isn't slick (he has quick hands though nothing spectacular), and is weak defensively. Obviously a good win nonetheless. Haye is the most intriquing fight out there imo, but while Haye is a very good puncher, he is a mediocre finisher. Wlad doesn't have the type of chin where he gets sparked clean out, so I don't know if I could favor him. I think more highly of Haye than most people do though, imo he has the athletic ability and boxing brain to take advantage where others have failed. Watching Peter-Klitschko, I kept thinking if Peter was just a little bit faster things would be very interesting, and one thing Haye has is speed. Boystov is young and shows promise so that might be an interesting one someday as well. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Valuev either. Adamek is a nice scalp but the Grant fight hurt his stock for the future tremendously imo. Anyway, Wlad got the job done impressively but beating a Sam Peter who your brother already made a ragdoll of and everyone fully expected you to dominate is cool but hardly mind blowing...
