Wlad should have 5 defenses a year if he wants to break the record.

However, with only 3 title defenses per year, Wlad will get too old, with his speed, stamina & reflexes dropping enough to make him beatable by age 38/39.

Have you not seen the Oquendo fight? That's a pretty clear loss. You're basing this 'champion since 2006' on the IBF title and a magazine, no way was Byrd consensus no1 in 06, there was no clear champ in 06, sort of like when Ali retired Frazier wasn't considered no1 until he'd unified.

Neither the IBF/Ring are really more credible than for instance the coloured HW title. Johnsons coloured and world title combined were 13years. Wills (bar losing and regaining) held the coloured title for 11 years. Lennox held the WBC title (barring losing and regaining) for 10years and in that 10years he has opponents better than anyone Wlad facing in Holyfield, Tyson, Golota, Rudduck, Vitali. Wlad hasn't been operating at that level, even Akiwande is a talent level above what he's been fighting. Where do you rank Lennox? What about Holmes he was champ from 78-85 and deserved to regain it. He also won it against Norton who most thought should have won the lineal title in 76

Wlad will never be consensus top 5 because he will not be clearly better than: Ali, Holmes, Louis, Lennox, Tyson, Marciano, Johnson, Holyfield in terms of his opposition/achievements. His losses in his prime (or near) to Sanders and Brewster will always hurt him legacy wise as will his weak opposition, which isn't as bad as some make it out but it's still bad

I think I'll rate rate Wlad top10 but top5, certainly will never be concensus.

I doubt whether or not you've seen it if you claim it was a clear loss. No way did fres win more than 5 rounds.

I'm basing him being champ on any of the belts. I'm basing it on him being the number 1 hw since 06. No one really disputes he's been number 1 since then and if you do then I wonder whether or not you followed boxing during this period.

Lewis was number 1 from 99 to 04. Larry from 78 to 85. Johnson lost to hart and wasn't considered number 1 till he beat burns. Wills was never considered number 1.

As it stands my top ten is

    Louis
    Ali
    Rocky
    Johnson
    Holmes
    Foreman
    Lewis
    Tyson
    Holyfield
    Dempsey

As I said if wlad extends his reign to a decade that's how I think he'll be perceived but only time will tell.

Louis fought a lot of bums too during his years of being a champion.

But no one disputed Louis was the Champ...

1937 to 1950 was the Joe Louis era.

2004 to 2012/13 will be the Klitschko era. But both of them... Luckily for the Klitschkos no one outside Eastern Europe and hardcore fans, realizes there are two of them!

    I disagree.

From 06-present is clearly the era of wlad. His brother is more like a footnote.

You couldn't claim any time before 06 as being an era of wlad. Likewise you couldn't claim any time after 06 as being an era of vitali.

They aren't one entity, they are two fighters with separate legacies. Wlad is the dominant champ, vitali is the physical freak.

    Did He?
this was New York wiseguy "moider da bum" journalism...

Louis' period was the greatest period in Boxing, much better than you realise, the second best period in HW history... do a who's who record comparison and see the difference.

you can argue all you want, but Better ERA's are FOREVER secured,
fighting poorer quality of fighters, fewer times, for lesser titles will always mean _uck all.

Imo the golden era of hw boxing was the 30's. So many great heavyweights all fighting each other.

Next is the 70's which would be top had frazier and norton fought. Had patterson been given the decisions he deserved and had liston come back more forcefully.

Next is the 90's which again would be top had bowe fought tyson and lewis and had lewis got his shot earlier.

After that it's fair game imo, the 80's had holmes, tyson and spinks the post lewis era had wlad, vitali and byrd. Honestly not much in it imo

Hm, so Joe Louis wasn´t fighting hws or blacks. I think we have to rewrite histoy here.

Wladimir Klitschko benefitted from the waning interest in boxing and thus of millions of potential rivals never getting into boxing in the biggest boxing nation alone.

    I agree.

    I agree too.

I don't understand the hate for Wladimir Klitschko.
People are saying even if he wins for another 5 years or beats Louis's record they won't rate him .

Yeah, I find him boring too. But you've got to give a fighter like him a huge amount of credit for all the fights he keeps winning.

And all this stuff about his crappy opposition is tiresome. ALL the heavyweight champions with multiple defences fought a load or unqualified or ordinary challengers.
