Shavers in his prime was destroyed by old Jerry Quarry then was thoroughly outboxed by a guy with more losses than wins two fights later. How is this guy, luck aside, going to get to the most skilled HW of this era.

Whoever lands first, realistically. Both of their records suggest Shavers was a faster starter, who has had far more first round knockouts. Since moving to Steward, Klitschko isn't a fast starter and paws behind his jab for the early rounds. I can't recall many Knockouts from him on the back foot, either, and Shavers would push him back early.

If Wlad changed his mentality and fought aggressively, it would be a 50/50 fight. However, Shavers was the faster starter and more aggressive in the early rounds, so in a fight where the first big shot lands, you'd have to favour a wild Shavers right hand over a pawing Klitschko jab.

Klitschko is a far better fighter and boxer though, so if he survived the first three rounds, Shavers stands little chance.

Norton was ranked and favoured to beat Shavers. Had he beaten him, he'd have had another world title fight against Holmes.

Different styles. Wlad would never be that aggressive and wouldnt take the bombs quarry took.

Even Lyle had to take some big punishment before he stopped Shavers. Wladimir would never recover from the left hook that brutually dropped Lyle or the right hand bomb that dropped Holmes. I think Wladimir would lose his focus and eventually get stopped. Not taking away anything from Wlad he's great but I'd favor Shavers.

Klitschko would have been asleep for a week if he took this shot!

    Seems so.

He couldn't play keep away without being tagged. Once Shavers lands, its all over.

Wlad knocks him out early-mid rounds.

I'd take Klitschko on 7 or 8 out of 10 times. Shavers lands hard, it is over. The younger Klitschko earlier would have been more likely to get KOd . The less likely to get hit Klitschko of recent vintage most likely would stave him off, and pound him into submission. But any Shaver would still have a puncher's chance.
