The point of the matter is Byrd was still controlled by Wlad and is managment when he held the WBO title. What they were called back then is beside the point. You keep trying. You keep failing. :patsch

Not long now till Wlad is gone and you will cease to exist on boxing forums.

The only thing he 'changed' was the rules of boxing.

Funny that I could have sworn Wlad went out of way and seeked out the reigning WBO champ Byrd (take note Lewis)

    Brewster for vacant title

Unbeaten Samuel Peter in a title eliminator. (take note Tyson Fury)

Unified with unbeaten World champ Ibragimov

Unified with unbeaten World champ Chagaev

    Byrd for vacant title

    Unified with World champ Haye

Unified with unbeaten World champ Povetkin

Wlad wasn't obliged to make any of these fights, especially once he grabbed his first title. He could have just emulated the 'greats' down at the dwarf weight classes and just sat on his title refusing to unify or take risky fights.

No one else in boxing ever clinches. Certainly not Hopkins who is considered an ATG here.

BTW, no one is stopping anyone else from using the same tactics. Did anyone complain that Povetkin was holding on for dear life in that round he got knocked down three times?

The more I learn about Leapai, the more I like the fight. It's a nice story, he earned his shot, and if he pulls it off, that would be huge on so many levels.

There are not that many credible challengers out there willing to face Wald anyway, Povetkin was seen as his biggest threat and we saw how that one played out.

Wald had his problems with mediocre opposition before, and if Leapai lands one of those uppercuts it's lights out.

Wald has a bum-complex ever since getting beat up by Ross Purrity, he is fighting his inner demons here.

Well it's the sport. If Leapai defeats Klitschko, then he deserves to be the champion. However it is very unlikely to happen.

People have always criticized the next upcoming champions and obviously when Wladimir retires there will be people saying that the division is dead, not worth watching etc, but the fact is that whoever becomes the champion next (assuming there is no controversy) he deserves it. And if he doesn't become as dominant as Klitschko, we may get some intense and close fights and surely many fans will like it more rather than being one-sided in favor of the dominant champ.

Looks like K2 is going to package future Klitschko fight on HBO with GGG. Smart move. HBO wants Wlad vs Jennings by the end of the year provided both keep winning.

Again, Lepai beat a fighter rated top 10 by RING in an eliminator to earn his shot.

The only other fighter who can make such a claim in the current rankings is Pulev.

Boytsov was ranked higher before he lost to Leapai, and you know that.

Somewhere between 40 and 50 and its plain laughable to claim he was ever in the Ring top 10.

Because he was ranked as high as 7.

RING don't have a top 50, they only do top 10 these days.
