Will Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin be for the Lineal Heavyweight title?

The title have been vacant since Lennox Lewis retired in 2004.

Hmm well Wlad already has the lineal title. If he didn't get it when he beat Byrd then he got it when he beat Chagaev.

However, if Wlad doesn't have it yet, then Wlad-Povetkin is #1 vrs. #2 IF you omit Vitali because he's been inactive for over a year.

this is good news, though I think most people already regard Wlad as the HW king, despite Vitali holding the We Be Crooks belt

Wladimir will end up winning the lineal title as many times as he wins the WBA title maybe.

They do; and I think with reasonable cause. But I would say that most people regard Wlad as "the man" TBRB included, rather than necessarily Lineal King. This is the final piece in the jigsaw puzzle that was the HW division post-Lewis, and it begins a new lineage. It's fitting that Wlad establishes it, or that the man defeating him does.

Lennox Lewis will hate to hear this. He kept running his mouth how he is the "last lineal HW champion", wonder if he will drop the talk.

Vitely has the lineal crown. He won it from Sanders. I don't recall Wlad beating Sanders.

no unfortunately, vitali still has one of the belts. there'll never truly be an undisputed champ until one of the brothers retires or loses and someone can gain all the belts.

By that reasoning, if Marciano came back in 1960, he would still be champ, not Patterson! Or if Tunney came back in 1938 and fought bums, he would still be champion, not Joe Louis!

Or that Jack Johnson wasn't champ in 1908 and 1909, but Jim Jeffries! And in their match in 1910, Jeffries, who was a farmer during the past four years, was the defending champion!

Do you recognize Marvin Hart, Tommy Burns as lineal champions?

You don't retire for four years and remain champion, however. And still, even if you're right, Vitali hasn't fought for a year, and therefore, forfeited any claim he has on the lineal title!

Burns held it while Jeffries was farming. Jeffries came back for it and failed. Vitali came back for it and succeeded. Vitali-Rahman-Oleg-Peter-Vitali.

lineal and undisputed are two separate things. You can even be undisputed champ without being lineal.

And lineal champ without holding a belt at all, these days.

It is for the lineal title, given that Wlad already holds it, and Povetkin is arguably the 1# contender.

sorry but any rankings that have Derek Chisora ranked #10 are not credible. He is British Level.
