To what extent is the altitude an excuse?

Hard to say really.

The fight took place at 1900 meters above sea level as far as I can tell.

I have ran ultra marathons at greater altitude than this, and the altitude caused some problems, but allowed normal functioning for the most part.

 

Why ? Who fought Lewis at 1900 metes above ? A hologram ?
The glass-chin and the bad defense aren't altitude problems.

 

And the rematch? If Rahman was so good, and Lewis so bad, why didn't he win the rematch?

 

Nobody is discounting those two defeats.

Without those two defeats Lewis is considered the best ever. With those two defeats he isn't.

Few make excuses for Lewis, it is his fault he did not adequately prepare for Rahman one, & came too late to fully adjust to the altitude, but these are the facts.

Nobody is more of a moralist & scold towards athletes who choose to lie, cheat, steal victories, money, fame from more deserving folks who do not use PEDS.

But there is no direct nor good circumstantial evidence that Lewis used.
His total mass & rate of gain does not seem ouitside what is probable for a well trained man of his size at all.

To say You cannot prove he did not use" betrays a deep bias.
It is basic logic that you cannot prove a negative.
What would a training program prove? Nothing/ Someone could lift or do something else to add that muscle, easily.
