That might be a good strategy for trying to get Wlad out of the middle of the ring, which is where you want him, going backward, it might even make him reluctant to jab, to put something out there, cause he knows Haye is trying to work something off his lead, but does Haye have enough perpetual head-movement to get that close to Wlad, to step up to mid range and say, go on then, lead to me, I will slip it and counter off it? Fighting in mid range, the pocket, is extremely dangerous if you dont know what your doing, but if Haye can pull it off, then I guess it could work. Ideally you would think if Haye did that, that Wlad might not be the type to break the lull in the action by getting off with a jab, as he might be too cautious to do that whilst he isn't backing you up, maybe in that situation Wlad would prefer to go back, or off to the side, looking for more room? which would be good news for Haye, as he could sell out with a looping right hand and not have to worry as much about paying the price for it, cause Wlad would not have lots of room behind him to step away from it, as the ropes might potentially be inhibiting him. You would worry about Haye stepping up to mid range and dropping his hands the way he does though. With all that said, I tend to think of Chambers as a better mid range fighter than Haye, I mean I know its Dimitrenko, but did you see how Chambers was able to sit in the pocket against him, get inside his range, and counter him? yet Chambers could not find a way in against Wlad. 4.52, Chambers trying to get in the pocket trying to draw leads. One thing I will say though, is Wlads waiting, Haye's speed, might help Haye beat him to the punch so he could land a wild swing over the top.
You know I think that is what makes guys like Mayweather, Hopkins, Wlad so good at what they do, they are all economical and patient, patient to the point where they dont mind stinking the joint out, provided you end up fighting their fight.
You have it right Rico. David would run for 12 rounds if WK would permit him to get away with doing so and I believe WK would do just that. If the fight by chance gets made, I expect a cautious, clinical WK decision by a wide margin. It most likely would be boring.
70/30 in favor of Wladimir is how I'd rate it. Haye does have a chance, and I expect to some some early explosions from him, before Wlad's power starts to rattle him. But I think Wlad will get caught a few times, but should be able to weather it, cause Haye won't be able to get inside and land very many. I think we'll see a vulgar display of power from Wlad's hellacious straight right hand, once he has Haye preoccupied with staying away from the jab, the right will take Haye's head off.......... Wlad by knock out, round 7-10.
My prediction: Haye gets told that his only chance is to charge at Wlad from the opening bell & throw bombs in bunches. He ignores this, instead trying to run & pot-shot his way to a decision. Wlad out-boxes him for most of the fight using just his jab, & cliches when Haye gets close. The fight is a snooze-fest & millions are left disapointed. :verysad Wlad via wide UD. I really hope i'm wrong though, i would love to see Haye stop Wlad under a hail of power-punches.
I agree, that 3rd round reminded me of a sloppy version of round 3 in Tyson-Bruno II, it would be a very effective style to use against Wlad.
