    Fair enough.

Seems irresponsible to ignore a message that you think came from God, though.

I don't think Young Foreman would agree with Old Foreman when it came to God. I also don't think Foreman is entirely honest. He says feelgood **** to please the audience.

    Both of these are true.

So most of it comes down to whether you believe that Young Foreman had a genuine religious experience that oriented him toward Old Foreman's (claimed) way of thinking.

People are so quick at judging others beliefs nowadays... None of us could say how honest Foreman was with his life turnaround. I don't see any reason to assume that he made up his religious experience.

Why was retiring at that time a sign of mental weakness?

No he didn’t. Get real. That Povetkin fight was one of the most disgusting performances in the history of the HW division.

He was dropped a dozen times, which clearly made him vulnerable and affected his confidence.

George wasn’t mentally weak and he was immensely strong. He’d have pressured Wlad from the outset and made him extremely uncomfortable. He barely survived Sam Peter, the last thing in the world that he’d have wanted, was George Foreman going at him. It’s not about who had the best technical skills and ring IQ. It’s about how they’d have matched up stylistically.

    Not at all.

Because Wladimir wouldn’t have been as offensive minded as he’d been when he was younger.

It's true that there's a bit of humbug to Foreman on some other issues... but yes, I find it very hard to believe that Foreman made up the vision.

First off, it's a weird excuse to invent. Second, you're talking A+ level commitment to keeping up the masquerade if you believe Foreman spent his next 10 years as a preacher insincerely.

The only way you can make it somewhat plausible is claiming that Foreman's despair at his career trajectory "softened him up" to take the vision seriously and quit boxing. Would Foreman have given up boxing if he'd still been champion, coming off a victory? It's a fair question. Certainly, it would've been a much bigger sacrifice.

EDIT: Although arguably, abandoning the game at the top of the world would have showed great moral courage, so it's not a simple issue. There are multiple moving parts.

Agreed. Vitali is a different one. He has the chin to survive the biggest shots.
