I can't believe it was fifteen title defenses ago (IBF anyway) that Klitschko last scored a left hook knockout, over Ray Austin.

In fact, Austin was dominated with primarily just the left hook...as was Pulev, arguably. (scored all the knockdowns, I think..or all but one and the right hand knockdown may have been set up by a hook...)

One of Thompson's corner men in that fight said to him "He don't like it in the face" -- referring to Pulev. Draws into question how they run their sparring sessions in that camp a little bit.

Wow, had no idea it's been that long!

Funny thing about the Austin fight, is you're exactly right about it being left-hook heavy.

In fact, I'm 95% certain Wlad didn't throw a single right hand in the Austin fight.

Edit: Come to think of it, the Chambers fight was a leaping left hook. Still, not a well he's gone to as much as he could.

I think he moved pretty well. Did you see his footwork, his dancing and hopping??

I think Wladimir was honestly surprised that Chambers went down from that initially. That shot was a grazing blow that caught Eddie on the temple (between his gloves). Wlad appeared to be using it to set up his follow-up right hand actually.

Against Pulev and Austin, he threw those hooks knowing they would land because he had set them up perfectly. The Chambers KO was the same result (a knock out) but it wasn't the exact same kind of shot as those two.

    It was, actually, exactly 15.

...you misread that as years? :yep

This was a tactical letdown from him, no sugar-coating it. :conf

That his chin failed to stand up to Wlad's power, I'm not upset about. I kind of saw that coming. I figured he would figure out a way to move and stick his jab...not stand there and wave his arms bluffing like he's a L20 mage about to cast evoke lightning bolt.

He just fought like a mook, and didn't have a plan A, let alone B. I'm disappointed.

Want to see that jab from Pulev in the first again, I thought he was going to destroy Wlad when he threw that punch.

As I said against Leapai, Wlad is looking better and better. He could go on until 2018 or even later.

One thing I don't understand is why he didn't go for the kill. Against Leapai he would have won with KO1, now the same with Pulev. :think

    1. Did he want to give his fans a few more rounds?
    2. Was he scared of the Bulgarian crowd to destroy their hero in the first?
    3. Did he wait to increase his income with advertising between rounds?

He looked like a monster. If I was Fury or Chisora, I would beg that their fight was not a mandatory fight

You would have never guess that Pulev had a solid amateur career in today's fight.

"Wladimir is a really good opponent, but he was lucky. I want a rematch. I'll win the next time," Pulev said. "There's luck in boxing. He's a good boxer but he's unsporting. There were a lot of tricks."

What kind of an idiot is he?

    Yeah, technically you're not wrong.

Chambers was exhausted and getting shaken up by jabs at that point. That was more of a hybrid jab/hook, and was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Austin was hammered with by-the-book perfectly turned over left hooks, and that's what Pulev got repeatedly dropped by as well.

Well, he does win the event. He can take solace in that, once he is done being a bitter crybaby.

    ...the girlfriend-having event.

...which is saying a mouthful, because I would not be unhappy to be slamming it to a pregnant Haydn Pannettiere.

    ...but Kubrat wins, there.
