Buster Douglas against Tyson in 1990.

Lets say this is the offensive machine that we saw against Ray Mercer in 2002, what I consider to be one of his best performances.

I personally think Wlad had almost everything that night.

A willingness to mix it up, unbelievable accuracy, punch variety, combination punching, he applied pressure when he had his man hurt.

Even when Wlad has been caught cold, he's never been laid out cold.

Keeping that in consideration, I think he could get up from Tyson's late fight uppercut and finish him.

    Hmm?

Wlads would get stopped. Douglas had the mental toughness and chin that night to stand up to Tyson. Wlad doesn't have enough actual defensive skills to stop Tyson, his defense is just clinching at every opportunity. If you are willing to take risks you can get to Wlad and hurt him. Tyson stops him within 4.

I too think Tyson would have stopped him. That uppercut that hurt Douglas and almost ended the fight, would have either stopped Wlad in his tracks, or made him fall apart right before our eyes as he desperately tried avoiding getting hit again with something like that. I think Wlad is a great fighter, but handling pressure and getting hit, just isn't something he's good at. As a result, now he seems to focus on not getting himself into those situations, which makes perfect sense.

I'd put my money on Wlad. Douglas' jaw was pretty weak too, i think he was KO'd in every one of his losses.

And Tyson just looked totally useless. To me he looked a lot better against Holyfield, seven years and three years prison later. He couldn't get his punches off, his workrate was below 30/round, etc etc. Maybe Wlad would box carefully and go for a decision, but he punches a lot harder than Douglas and Tyson's stamina during that fight wasn't all that either.

How come every time we do a comparison like this we have to use a peak Wlad vs the shitty version of Tyson who lost to Douglas. Let's just do what we're all thinking and take the 1987 Tyson who starched Pinklon Thomas against whatever version of Wlad that you choose, and get down to business.

    Prime Tyson beats prime Wlad.

I think almost any version of Tyson beats Wlad. Tyson is simply a nightmare for him. I guess he'd have a chance against the Tokyo Tyson, but I still wouldn't favor him.

Tyson always seemed to display an excellent chin even in his less than stellar outings. Wlad's one Achilles' heel, so to speak, is that he does not seem to have confidence in his ability to absorb a hard shot. I don't think Wlad has a glass jaw. I just don't see his jaw as being Holyfield like or even Vitaly like. For that reason Tyson has a huge edge. He could be losing badly and end up nailing Wlad with something. So I think even the lackluster Tyson of the Douglass fight would find a way to take out Wlad eventually. I thought Wlad was an emerging star but he has been too cautious and tentative in his last couple outings IMO.

    Tyson by stoppage

I tend to believe that tyson gets way over rated...but then again nowadays so is wlad. I would give Wlad an outside shot, but have to believe that a slightly deteriorated (less than most say) Tyson would still have to much for Wlad. Tyson in 6

    Agreed,

In February of 1990, for one night only, Wlad might have beaten Tyson during the rare instance that Mike had his head up his ass, but a 1991 Tyson under the training of Rich Giochetti against Razor Ruddock would have starched Wlad.

Well said, what about Tyson of the Thomas fight against Wlad of the Sanders fight!!!!
Seriously though , imo Tyson stops him, i know every Tyson fan (im an unbiased one though i believe) will use the point that when Wlad gets hit good he will either crumble or get laid out , but imo this is a very valid point to be brought up. I believe Tyson to be of the very best h2h in his prime. Even on the night of the Douglas fight , if Wlad replaces Buster, i just dont see Wlad showing the dogged guts and determination to do it for 10 rounds or more.

Tyson will always stop Wlad imo
