If we are talking about the 92 Bowe, if they fight here in the states, I say Bowe wins by DQ, no ref in his right mind is going to allow, all of that grabbing, and excessive holding, and pulling his head down, bull****.. If they fight in Germany it's a toss up, Bowe would have to ko him, because under no circumstances is Bowe getting a decision..
Bowe fought to within an inch of his life and refused to give up. It was an massive showing of heart and courage. You are mistaken.
I would put Bowe on the more extreme side of dirty. He was clean as a whistle until things started not going his way. I don't see Bowe so much as a wasted talent as not really having the long term durability of a great top flight heavyweight. Certainly, Holyfield, Foreman, Lewis and even Waldo have proven more durable over their careers than Bowe.
Wonder what Wlad and Bowe think of each other? Tyson has shown admiration for Wlad, Foreman has showed disdain. Bowe would have beaten all of Wlad's opponents, of course Sanders is a sleeper. Wlad would prob beat all of Bowe's opponents except maybe Holy, Biggs. Bowe has showed a more complete package imo, not legacy but H2H due to his boxing displays, brawls, brutal old school fights. Wlad has a plan A, Bowe is more versatile best inside game, top 5 outside game, iron chin, never say die attitude. What else is there? Let's discuss footwork because Ive seen more Bowe full fights. I believe Wlad is quicker on his feet and has quicker hands, but Bowe has a quicker jab. Thoughts on handspeed and footspeed?
Perfect post ! It`s about time someone spoke using common sense...Thanks for a bit of normalcy and class...
Bowe fought for his life in the rematch what he took in that fight was inhumane and should of been stopped. However in the first fight he was overweight and flabby and I think he knew it and MAY have been trying to get out of first fight. Hard to judge. But his lying on canvas looked a lot like Broner to me in the Maidana fight after the head butt.
Bowe hit his peak, but wasted his prime. Part of that was on his pyscho manager Rock Newman. The other part was his poor habits outside the ring that lead to excess weight and trouble with the law. Career wise, Wlad is better, and I think he would decision Bowe had they fought, but its close to 50/50
He ate his way out of contention. I`ve always believed the blatent ducking of Lennox Lewis hurt Bowe`s fragile confidence more than anything. He had a real shot to beat Lennox had they fought pre Manny Steward. If your own manager doesn`t believe in you then that can`t feel good going forward. When I think of Bowe I think of the prospect/contender coming up. I was very impressed with him at that time up to his terrific performance against Holyfield. Eddie Futch polished a diamond with Riddick Bowe but he was too old to dick around with a guy that wasnt all in with his career. JMO
Lots of family issues as well, five kids I believe. Never made sense to me that Bowe was scared of Lennox, who was so green with obvious flaws. Wlad never experienced the kind of pressure that Bowe would pour on. Wlad had a longer career, but his fights aren't even televised in the U.S. and he doesn't act like a champ in the ring. Wlad has the dicipline but he will never capture the imagination of fans
I watched the Povetkin fight on HBO and the Haye fight. His smaller fights in between have been on Epix lately. I'm in America.
That's a good point. Bowe showed lots of promise on his way up, and despite a plethora of up-n-coming guys at the time, he had managed to distance himself from the pack. He barely put a foot wrong up to and including his first fight with Evander, but what followed after that very good win was not terribly impressive. With his innate talent and Eddie Futch behind him, his legacy should have been a lot more impressive than it was. Take away the wins over Holyfield and there isn't much to get excited about, which is a pity.
Were he and Rock Newman friends before their business partnership? They seemed closer than most Fighters\Mangers.
Wlad would outbox Bowe but Bowe would pressure looking to walk through Wlad to land his big punches. I think at some stage he probably does and he scores the KO.
That seems to be the most likely scenario. Bowe`s not going anywhere and he is eventually going to drop the hammer. Sometimes when the size/skill is close it comes down to who takes a better shot. It aint Wlad.
You say Bowe isn't "brewster", right? That same "brewster" pummeled Golota (who was beating up Bowe) in a round.
