Could Bowe beat Wlad with his inside game? I personally think Bowe would be too hittable, and he struggled against fighters with good jabs. I got Wlad by stoppage.
Bowe would crush him one on one in a single fight, and very quickly...wlad shoul not be put in the ring with an elite HW ever. However over a series of three, you would expect a master of longevity like Wlad to win at least one bout as Bowe slid into his physical histrionics.
This. Wlad's lack of an inside game and weak chin would let him down against Bowe. But, Bowe was also very lazy and inconsistent. Wlad would outpoint an out of shape Bowe, but would get crushed by Bowe in top condition.
I've always given Bowe the edge in this match up, I think being of similar size he could get to Wlad often enough to land something big and force him to fight at a pace he isn't comfortable with. But I think I've underrated Wlad in the past, now that he's retired I think he has a definite chance against Bowe. For one thing he's bigger, faster, has the better jab. He can beat Bowe to the punch and when he can do that he can do his jab and grab style which is so difficult to deal with. Now Bowe has issues, he is too easy to hit, his movement is poor. Usually he's the bigger man and smaller men would come to him so he didn't have to cut the ring off on guys as they came to him. Wlad can undoubtedly out box Bowe from the outside, if Evander in the 2nd fight could box more and give Bowe fits, Wlad has a lot of success against such a big, slow, target. Who wins will come down to the ref. A ref that allows Wlad to clinch as he pleases allows Wlad to smother Bowe. He has some tough moments, might even have to pick himself off the floor but he does just enough to win a tough decision. A ref that doesn't allow Wlad to clinch, sees Bowe able to apply more pressure and work inside. He sets a pace that will undo Wlad. Bowe stops Wlad.
maybe true since his scalp that claims it was apparently a holyfield who wasnt 100% fit. That said, prime Wlads nemeses have all been lower, the fringe world class fighters, whilst his best wins are opponents who it is debatable have high world class credentials, and were certainly not elites.
Bowe is one of the most overrated HWs ever because of his wars with Holy. It's pretty clear he beat Evander because he was bigger than him. Looked like Ali's last fight but more competitive. He also got the **** beat out of him by Golota twice.
Bowe was a bit of a fraud. Yes, he beat an ATG in Holyfield, but A) It was a matter of natural advantages. Bowe was just so much bigger, and B) We don't know which Holyfield he beat. A lot of Holy's greatness was as "Evan Fileds." The rest of Bowe's record was against bums, and there should have been a few more losses on there. Don't forget that this is the guy who threw a belt in a trash can from terror at the real champ. Wladdy was not without his own problems, but he would have handled Bowe.
A really tough call, but I think at some point Bowe connects heavily and probably finishes him off then and there.
The referee plays a HUGE role in this one. If Wlad is allowed to clinch incessantly, he easily carries this fight. If Bowe is allowed to actually work on the inside, we have a good one. I'd favor Wlad, though, to keep the stationary Bowe at the end of his jab and 1-2 more often than Bowe would be able to get inside.
Bowe crumbles Wlad like a cookie. A guy who relies on clinching to control his opponents is going to get pasted by Bowe who was a wrecking ball on the inside. It doesn't help that Wlad has a weak chin and a weak mental state on top of things. He'd have a nervous breakdown as soon as Bowe began ripping uppercuts and body shots into him up close. Besides that its one dimension vs two dimensions. Weak chin vs strong chin. Weak mental fortitude vs an unbreakable will to win. Its like asking who wins between Felix Sturm vs Gerald Mcclellan or Shenchenko vs Errol Spence or Vitcor Postal vs Arron Pryor
