So, Jess Willard would be 7-10, 450 pounds today?

Where is your proof that Waldo was/is on the HGH/Steroids?

I've read that Yahoo article too, and I think it's nonsense. All this "the Romans ran 400 miles with 80 lbs. of armor on stuff is silly.

In terms of boxing, yes. Wladamir Klitschko was brought up in the Russian athletic system from the pre-teens. He was given growth hormones from an early age and continues with them now. It's not an accident that Joe Louis was washed up at 34 and Bernard Hopkins keeps fighting.

    There are caveats to this:

If you tested a really good lower-weight fighter today, such as, say Maidana, and put him in the right with Henry Armstrong, he'd lose. Boxing back then was the nation's glamor sport and this attracted the best athletes. This is no longer the case. But with heavyweights it's a totally different thing.

the first era of heavyweights ended when Sonny Liston defeated Floyd Patterson. The 190lb. heavyweight gave way to the 215 lb. heavyweight. That led to Ali, Holmes, etc. The next era of heavyweights ended when Evander (a 215 lb. on roids) bounced 400 punches off Riddick Bowe's forehead. then we had the 235 lb. heavyweights.

If Wlad was to spar with Marciano, the little guy may have heart, but Vlad is taller, rangier, heavier, physically stronger, more flexible, on steriods AND faster. It's pretty much over the first time Rocky gets hit with a jab.

Does Dolly Parton have breast implants? Where's your proof? She's never admitted it.

I did not say Marciano would win and Vlads tools are still there, I think Marciano still has a better chance than Johnson because he can do 3 things that defeated Vlad before = punch very hard and fight at a fierce pace and drain stamina and his mental and physical fortitude can change an opponents will....Vlad in his current cautious, smart pace and Jab and rocket right would be difficult to beat but Big guys have not proven to have big chins as you mentioned with your list in the Johnson-Vlad thread

In reality era's are a key with these match-ups because a king is a king in his kingdom (ERA) If we parachuted Vlad into any era in his current form he would be a serious problem for anyone even my # 1 Joe Louis (even though I think Joe beats him) Vlad's weapons would cause problems but as we know no one has invented the time machine and the benefits of modern eh benefits were not really perfected in era's past

Wow. Are you really this dense?

I guess we should investigate Shaquille O'Neal and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, also.

I haven't read that article, but you certainly don't need to go back to roman times for examples. Its certainly not rubbish that people had no choice but to walk vast distances as the norm back then - do you think they took the train instead?

Examples of outstanding stamina are rife in the 18th/19th century when you couldn't just use a motor to get anywhere you liked or even down the road. One example - I think its in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff walks from London to Yorkshire in less than 4 days, a 50+ mile dawn till dusk prospect frightening for all but a top Olympian today - but back then it was considered acceptable to do this as part of normal life (granted Heathcliff was after his bit of fanny but even so!).

They had to accept it as part of normal life, there was no alternative to getting extremely fit, except death. In that kind of breeding programme, where anyone who cant hack an Olympian lifestyle dies, you end up passing on an awesome set of athleticular genes down the line, and the attitudes to go with it.
In comparison, recent times see us handing down an increasingly weaker set of genes and attitudes towards healthy lifestyles. We are getting weaker, steadily, passing on genes built around taking the train and eating rubbish. MOdern life simply does not allow the time our ancestors had to commit to healthy lifestyle.

You do know that they spell their names differently because they are, in fact, brothers... and ergp, different people.

Whilst I don't deny that steroid abuse is rife in sport, theres only proof of occasional use in the Vitali. Wlad is so far considered clean (at least dubiously so).

Its supposition to assume the Ks are a product of growth hormone. There have always been very tall people around, theres just more today due to better nutrition. Nor do the Ks exhibit the side effects acromegaly lends as far as I know.

You are right, just as it is supposition, as I mentioned earlier, to assume that Dolly Parton is not naturally endowed. She's never admitted that she has breast implants. However, those of us with eyes...

I am an ex Hollywood, CA personal trainer, and I would bet my house even money right now with anyone that the Klitschko brothers have been doping since they were teens. their faces show it, their bodies show it it's quite obvious really.

And I have no axe to grind with the K-Bro's. They seem like gentlemen and nice guys, and they are certainly not the only ones, but they are long-term roiders, and they would each knock Maricano out in two rounds, it's as simple as that.
