Y'all wake me up when the next 5-11, 185 pounder with a sub 70" reach and no real handspeed, footspeed or balance controls the heavyweight division.

Until then, I will take my victory in this argument and let you reminisce.

    Hmm,

So one guy has a PHD ( abeit in sport science ) whilst the other was a semi literate fool who couldn't even handle fight contracts or simple bank accounts.

Run the part about intellect by us again.

Allow me to impart my professorial knowledge for you in this instance. Whereas Lee Savold was too old and shopworn to capitalise on Marciano falling over himself, and missing wildly with hopeless swings in their fight, the 6' 6" far more more powerful, athletic and skillful Klitchko would fail to capitalise due to lack of commitment.

It is otherwise known as " the rabbit caught in the headlights " syndrome.:rofl:rofl;)

Wladimir Klitschko knocks out Marciano. Marciano is still the best ever under 200lb, favor him over Dempsey, Langford, Tunney all those guys.

I felt it was the least I could do in return for your generous explanation of elementary physics, with regard to how easily Marciano could spring up from a crouch, and KO a man 7.5 inches taller than him.;)

Do you think Rocky could have used this weapon to emulate Chuvalo by beating 4 guys in the one night? Lets say both Klitch brothers, the slightly smaller ( 6' 5" ) Lewis, and any other 6' 6" or over guy of your choice?

Or would you make Frazier favourite over Marciano to do this coming up from one of his low bob and weave moves?

You are certainly no one to complain of double standards after your reverence of Marciano for beating 39 year Moore but slating Pastrano for beating a 44 year old version.

Plus if you read the post by Seamus he clearly says he would back Marciano to beat any fighter UNDER 200 lbs.

Now that might just mean he has the sense to understand that Marciano would not have his own way with guys 6' 4" and over weighing 240+

    Whereas it appears you don't.

Marciano beat a 38 year old Moore. Yes Marciano deserves full credit. I was making a case that Valdes fought a much better version of Archie Moore than Pastrano did. Do you agree? I believe Nino Valdes fought a prime Archie Moore in 1953 and 1955. Pastrano did not.

If you can't see the signifigant differences in a 1953 Archie Moore vs a 1962 Archie Moore, then we have nothing to talk about

    Here is the 1953 Moore

    1955

    vs

    1962 Moore

Look at how fat and slow Archie looks in 1962 compared to 1953 and 1955

Seamus disagrees with you about Marciano, Foxy. Seamus thinks Marciano had underrated skills, read his quotes.

Oh dear, what a terrible gaff on my part. Moore was a whole 11 weeks short of 39 when Marciano aged 32 and 3 weeks fought him. As opposed to the 27 year old Pastrano fighting Moore at 45.

Yet you neglect to mention that Pastrano was far from the " puncher " that you scream from the rooftops Moore was.

As for Seamus agreeing with me or not, that bears no relevance as to his claim Marciano would beat anyone UNDER 200 lbs.

If and when he starts claiming Marciano could do the same to guys of the size, power, and skill level of the K2 bros, Lewis etc, I'll decide whether or not to take issue with him.

Lewis is too small to have a chance with Rocky, he would be reaching all the time, or maybe that's retching?

Frazier, the acknowledged Willie Pep of the division, would be up against it with Marciano, for the first time he would be facing someone with identical defensive ability!
Someone who possessed subtle skill that the layman and casual fan just cannot begin to appreciate.

Deliberately launching punches that miss by several feet and falling on your face is an art form very few boxers have been seen to perfect on film. Marciano probably cornered the market with this particular move.
We shall never see his like again.:-(

Cheers. Now I understand where I have been going wrong in the 50+ years I have been involved in, and following the sport. I simply failed to notice those defensive subtleties deployed by Frazier and Marciano.

I did however catch the missed punches, even though I was far from ringside.

    :good
