This. Also, I’d like to add that Marciano’s balance wasn’t bad, but it was more that he was fighting very experienced fighters that were quick, clever, and very hard to land on. Most modern heavyweights have the luxury of fighting fighters that for the most part are not only less experienced, but slower, and a heck of a lot less crafty.

When Joe Louis fought Conn, who was experienced, quick on his feet, and very clever he made Joe Louis look slow and clumsy most of the fight. Walcott also made Joe look slow and clumsy.

Marvis Frazier, who was around Marciano’s size beat every big heavyweight he ever fought as a pro despite lacking Marciano’s durability, ring experience, and punching power.

Lennox Lewis most likely avoided a fight with Byrd for this reason, since he knew Byrd would make him look bad, since I can recall any quick crafty experienced fighters Lewis ever beat and Foreman also struggled with crafty fighters. Marciano on the other hand always found a way to beat them.

You had me until you said Marvis beat every big HW he faced, didn't Holmes beat him?

Lewis would've pummeled Byrd, just like Ike and Klitschko did

Whatever I previously said about this, just call me an idiot (can’t remember and can’t be bothered to trawl through the thread)

Just know this: it wouldn’t even be competitive. Wlad would dominate Marciano and probably knock him spark out within five rounds.

I'm inclined to agree .I'll tell you why . Rock ,in his time , the early 50 s , was ideal for that precise time . Can't take a single thing away from him ,he battered his opponents one by one .If all heavyweight s had stayed more or less the same weight then Marciano s always in with a chance .,
Once we move in to THIS modern era , then the odds are stacked against him . Nothing away from Marciano ,he's a legend , but so so much against him here .
    I'd have to say he'd need a miracle .

I didn’t use Holmes or Tyson as an example because Holmes and Tyson were just better fighters than Marvis. It wasn’t Larry’s size, but his amazing timing that did Marvis in. This was also the case with Tyson, who timed Marvis like nobody else could except for Holmes himself.

Also, we’ll never know what Lewis would’ve did to Byrd, since when he had the chance to fight him he dropped his title and didn’t fight him. Vitali also chose not to try and regain his title from Byrd and Vitali never fought a quick and clever fighter like Byrd ever again and left those fighters for Wlad.

I can’t just give assume that Lewis would win. There was something about Byrd’s style the Lewis didn’t like, so he avoided the fight and gave a lame excuse for why he avoided Byrd.

Also, Lennox fights nothing like Wlad or Ike and Ike’s was able to time a prime Byrd and stop him. Wlad himself couldn’t manage that and Wlad had the luxury of having had his brother Vitali fight and lose to Byrd, which helped Wlad develop a very effective strategy for when he fought Byrd.

That specimen as good as he was was def flawed. Not so great stamina and a terrible chin.
But solid point on the inside work against Wlad. He was excellent at the hold and lean...idk if it would work on Marciano or not. He’d prob get a low blow or two or accidentally lean into a haymaker. Can’t recall Wlad working it on such a short fighter that got even shorter.

i dont get you, ferg. if the fighters marcciano had faced, had bulked up to 240lbs, then they all would have beaten him in a cardio sport?

    Rocky was a monster.
    Not for his time.
    Not for his size.
    He was a monster.

I think Wlads size works against him here.
He gets hurt at some point and has no escape route.

No Herol , what I'm saying is , they were nt overly massive for Marciano to basically look a dwarf In there . The size factor didn't play such a big part in his defense s . But a lot bigger , skilled fighter is going to give him a hell of a harder fight .
Yep, Rocky could maybe pull off a Ruiz type win but the odds are against him .

I would suggest you watch ruiz joshua if you think size beats being hit full force on the chin.

sure good proportional difference helps - but thats minimal at HW.

You’re right but it is a sport of match ups. And Wlad does poorly against the best pressure fighters with power imo. I would pick Frazier and Tyson over Wlad as well. Matchups/styles are everything h2h. I see Wlad frustrating the **** out of Liston but I see Liston beating Marciano most times (when discussing the top 15 guys any one can beat the other if they play it right and make them fight their fight). Can Wlad enforce his will over Marciano? I don’t think so.
