he'd beat them the best of them, pov plods and haye would run scared.

my one caveat is if fury improves, because i wont judge him till he finishes. joshua might improve too i guess. i cant judge someone completely until they fnish their career.

I like Marciano too but I'm not going to lie about how I see the matchup going. Wlad liked fighting little guys because he could exploit his style and size to the fullest and Marciano is the littlest of them all. Am I writing him off? No. I don't think you could write a guy like Marciano off against anybody. But if I had to pick a shitty matchup for him, Wladimir would be one of the ones right at the top of the list.

 

I can. Controversial to popular revisionist belief on this forum, Marciano has a granite chin. He was renown for his chin in his time and after, it was his #1 most memorable attribute. At the end of his reign he was considered the toughest heavyweight champion ever.

A flash knockdown against Walcott and, let's be honest, a loss of balance against Moore has somehow been blown so out of proportion that he's a china chinned defensive wizard

They don't make them much tougher than Marciano. At least, if Haye can go the distance, I think Marciano can last too

 

I'd say a bad matchup for Marciano would be Foreman. Honestly I see Wlad as a good matchup. Marciano could end the fight at any time and especially so against Wlad's lackluster chin.

I understand he likes to exploit height. But that's been done and overcame in boxing before again and again and again

Not going to argue this too much here, because I like both guys and I don't want to dump on either of them.

 

Honestly, I think there's strong arguments for either winning, both pose a lot of stylistic issues for each other. I think Rocky is much better P4P, but conceeding a lot of weight. Both legit ATGs, and great examples of overcoming weaknesses.

Wlad was very good at beating smaller fighters using his reach, and he has a massive reach advantage in this. In truth Wlad is also probably a solidly bigger puncher than anyone Rocky fought. He has a lot of weight to use on the inside to counter Rocky's infighting.

On the other hand, Rocky easilly had the power to crack Wlad's dodgy chin, and could really fight on the inside, while Haye and especially Povetkin were pretty hopeless at that. Rocky could just keep fighting at a made pace, Wlad's engine wasn't the best, and if he started to tire Wlad would have little way back into the fight.

 

Any fan who gives Marciano even the slightest chance to beat Wlad is operating under an old school bias too deeply engrained to ever be removed. Better to toss them on the trash fire with all the other junk.

 

You say Marciano had one punch power in both hands ,don't you think Wlad carried the same? imo Wlad hit harder than Rocky and he wasnt hitting old, 188lbs men either.

 

Loss of balance against Moore? He was buzzed for a few seconds which he admitted himself,he gets up and begins walking towards the ropes expecting a standing count which was waived in title fights.Lets not minimise the kd.
Marciano's most memorable attribute was his engine,his stamina.Marciano had a good chin, but he wasn't George Chuvalo was he.
Haye stopped trying to win that fight very early on, its hard to stop a guy who is just intent on survival.
Old Joe Louis marked up Rocky pretty badly with his jab,a prime Wlad would drastically rearrange his features imo and, in close he would be held and tossed around like a doll.

 

why would body breakdown over a 10 year career be even remotely relevant in a 45 minute match between wlad and rocky?
