I have a hard time believing or visualizing Marciano getting anywhere near Wlad. Shorter, slower, and far lighter with about 12-inches less in reach doesn't do a whole lot for making me believe he'd stop Wlad. The guys that have stopped Wlad have been monsters on their own right, able to get close enough to deliver. Yeah, Marciano was great but there are arguments that support Wlad being able to paste him into the canvas...and if Archie Moore could drop him, Wlad certainly could too.

The big question is why is Wlad so universally despised and disrespected?

Klitschko 116-112 in a 12 rounder or 144-141 in a 15 rounder... closer than most think IMO.

    Boxed Ears,

That post I made was 3 years ago. Wladimir since then has become the Ring Magaizne lineal world heavyweight champion, continued to improve, beat the best out there...and has completely made me a firm believer in him. My opinion of Wlad has changed.

Wladimir beats Marciano by unanimous decision or late stoppage. Marciano would be completely outgunned and would take a horrible beating. He would never even touch Wlad's chin. Rocky's heart and chin will keep him to the final bell.

In today's world Marciano would be 6-2, 235 lbs. I think he uses his underrated defense (in today's world he would never be cut) and speed of hand, reach (it would probably be about 79" today) to get to Wlad, who any time he is grazed by a stiff wind falls into a coma.

Tough as hell...as author Everett Skeehan said of Marciano,..."The toughest...most determined and relentless fighter that ever lived"...

How is the 6 7 Wlad going to establish any offense vs the ultra low crouch that Rocky employed? Marciano had a tricky defense...looked like he could be hit easily but he was always bobbing and rolling with shots....not an easy target at all in reality. Rocky had no history of going down in sections as does Wlad after being clocked. When Rocky hits him on the chin, and he will, something is going to give and its not Rockys fist. This whole idea that Rocky would be slow vs Wlad is just stupid. Rocky is going to look real quick in the ring vs the walking statue.

He could be 235 lbs, but he would still be 5'11 and 67 inch reach. Wlad is 6'6 and 81 inch reach.

Watch his brutal KO loses to nothings like Purity. Same thing with Brewster and Sanders. It looks like the breeze from the punches were making Wlad stagger all over the ring. When he gets hurt its crazy hurt. When he goes down he goes down in sections. Chins don't get better and Wlad does not have durability. He is not beating Marciano, Louis or anyone else good enough to hit him.

    That was meant as sarcasm.

In today's world his best fighting weight would still be around 185. You can't fit 235 on that scrawny frame and those stubby limbs.

What light-heavyweights/cruiserweights would you favor over Marciano today?

Marciano would win, and as Wladimir crumbled the nonbelievers would experience something very similar to what Newton would have had he been alive to witness Einstein’s theories weave their way into our lives.

A few years ago cross-trainer insinuated that it ‘gets to a point’ when a size differential is too much. Ted Spoon would counter that there comes a point when one size fits all. If size holds sway then our 7 footers would have scrubbed up better.

Very rarely is the opposite considered; Marciano was taught to fight even smaller. Many present heavyweights attempt to fight long, and upon realising Wladimir’s superiority in this department they know not how to shorten their punches, roll under jabs. Sure enough, in quick time, their confidence is shot.

Marciano would neither try to play Wladimir’s game nor would he get discouraged. Straight off the bat we have a new recipe forged from ingredients we already know the big man has trouble digesting.

So crude are some of these breakdowns that there’s this picture painted of a weak light-heavyweight pitifully swiping the air in futile efforts to clip the giants jaw.

Rocky would make him fight, he would make him uncomfortable, and as soon as he smells that which an army of incompetence has failed to invoke (namely fear) a Suzie-Q would whip around the next corner.
