Lyle knocks him out. Well perhaps once in 10 fights. The others are won by Wlad, either by late TKO or wide UD.
Wlad's really in another league. Lyle has a chance to spark something, though. I think Lyle fought well against Foreman (While Foreman was fighting bad). Made for an awesome fight, but who did Lyle ever KO? His best efforts are two losing efforts against Ali and Foreman. What ranked fighters did he stop?
He hurt Joe Bugner bad, and won a desicion over bonavena, Ellis he also stopped George "Scrap Iron" Johnson, and Garcia. Lyle had a pretty solid punch. I think he would KO Wlad. He is certainly more durable.
Earnie Shavers, Larry Middleton, and he beat up and outpointed some good durable contenders. He beat Bonavena and Bugner on points.
Lyle , but a tough fight. Lyle isn't one of these newcomer pussies, he's the real ****. Klitshko has a good chence, he's good, but I think Lyle overcomes his long jab, good right hand, by not laying back looking for a lucky shot, but doing his thing, boxing and landing hard shots, and KOing the big guy. Being in there with someone as good or better than him is not something new to a 70s heavyweight contender, thery're used to it.
I think Ron Lyle is better than anyone Wladimir has beat. Likewise, Wlad is better than anyone Lyle beat. Interesting fight.
One Sided Massacre. Wladimir jabs Lyle to death, nails him with pinpoint straight right hands everytime Lyle tries to work his way in. Lyle may break through once or twice but for the most part Wlad dominates him and outboxes him from ease at a distance. Wlad unanimous
I think Lyle's power is overrated. His best scalp by KO was probably Shavers, who more than a few people KO'd. Sure, he sent Foreman into a life and death confrontation but Foreman was really starting to unwind and show major flaws. As stated above, 9 out of 10 times Wlad wins, most often by brutal, time-release KO, as is his style. And funny, how many of the fighters Wlad takes out in this fashion are never the same again.
Okay, so he hurts Bugner and decisions Bonavena. You think he's out-boxing KOing Wlad? Who did he KO of real worth? I don't think it's a question of durability otherwise Wlad wouldn't have made it as far as he has.
Lyle is dangerous but he liked to fight off the ropes and Wladimir likes to keep his opponents against the ropes. If Lyle finds his timing, he could earn an upset win, but most likely Wladimir keeps him off with the jab. See Foreman-Lyle, except replace Foreman with a far more cautious and better technical fighter. Foreman got through Lyle's defense with his jabs but he was always there to be hit for Ron, unlike Wladimir who would back away and clinch at the slightest hint of trouble. Imagine him landing the bombs against Wladimir that he landed on Foreman.
Wlad gets teh decision 60% of the time, but 40% of teh time Lyle KO's him. Lyle is a top 10 ATG heavywieght as a puncher/slugger - making him extraemely dangerous against anyone, especially glass chins. Look how good Lyle was against prime Foreman - he nearly out-brawled a juggernaught who is impossible to out-brawl. Like i said - 60% chance of Wlad out-boxing Lyle and 40% chance of Lyle forcing Wlad to brawl and KO'ing the favorite. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96KfeAFakak[/ame]
Wlad brutally beats the **** out of him and knocks him out around 8. I'd be surprised if Lyle won more than a round. Lyle is more of a boxer than puncher.
True. Lyle is so much better 35 years after his prime than he actually was during it. And the perception of him as some power punching destroyer is befuddling at best. I can only assume those who make this contention really don't know anything about the sport or the era.
