Liston twice quit or folded in HW title fights, and he was also flattened by a 200-pound fringe contender at a stage in his career when Wlad is still sitting atop the division. I'd also argue that Wlad showed more mental toughness in rebounding from his (admittedly embarrassing) losses to reach the heights that he's at now. If this is an issue of mental toughness, Liston's should be questioned far more than Wlad's IMO. All of these fighters have better resumes and/or achievements than Liston, and all except maybe Tyson showed more mental toughness. Unless you believe there's a substantial argument to be made about styles here, I believe that quite a few great or ATG HWs should be favored over Liston.
Yeah theres a lot of controversy surrounding the Ali fights though. Even though I believe Ali had the style to beat Liston. Who else do you favor over Liston besides Louis, Foreman, Tyson, amd Bowe? I watched an interview that said Sonny felt like he could beat anyone after the Williams fights. Any info on whether Wlad has ever spoken in a similar fashion?
Yeah, it's obvious Wlad has better longevity, but I would say in Liston's case, the longevity has to do with out of the ring problems. I know Liston had drug problems and alcohol problems, he didn't take care of his body the same way Wlad has been. People also say Liston was older than what he claimed to be, so take that with a grain of salt.
Sonny feet were great,he was never caught off balance. Even when he launched himself forward he was able to land on balance and continuous punch Hayes wild swing still clocked him,and thats what he did all night and he still got it. Haye hit him to the body/head nothing like we've seen because his opponents have been push overs. He didn't land near no where near as often as he did previously and since and it's because Haye moves,he's small enough to be able to move. Sonny can move. Sonny has power and reach. Sonny is fast I don't know why you say other if you wan't to see his speed play Haye/Wlad next to Liston/Whitehurt and you'll see Sonny throw in the same speed as them both. Wlad is going to have to change his style, something he cant do. Sonny will duck and hit, duck and hit something Haye was able to do and land constantly. The big difference is upper body movement. Move and hit. Something Wlad doesn't like and can't get into any rhythm. Move,Duck,Hit easy to beat a big man for someone like Sonny.
Wait you've just said Pianeta due to his record is comparable to the likes of Joe Frazier? You want to buy a bridge im selling?
Lewis, Holyfield, Frazier, and both Klitschkos. Dempsey and Walcott would be at least pick 'em fights IMO. I also think some unlikely non-great HWs may have had a shot at "upsetting" him as well - like Tommy Loughran or Chris Byrd. It's possible that Liston could've used his size effectively enough to beat most of the smaller, CW-sized greats, but I think the greats of equal or greater size would've likely taken him. He seems to have been very confident over the last several years, after he and Stewart "clicked."
This message is hidden because glover is on your ignore list. You're boring and predictable. Everything even a little bit sane I've already read on that blog. I don't need to waste my time reading your posts when I already know what you're saying the times it isn't 100% bull****.
Vits has the better chance against Sonny, but poor ol Wlad has next to none, one coeection and hes allover the floor, probably very early.
