I don't think anyone will argue that with 44 knockouts in 50 victories Wladimir Klitschko is a better puncher than Tony Thompson who has 19 knokouts in 31 wins.
Size wise they re almost a match Klitschko is an inch and a half taller than Thompson, Thompson has a half inch longer reach. This means that they both should be able to conect and there is no confort zone where one can hit the other and be out of harms way. This means the fight could be determened by who has the better ability to take the other's punches.
Thompson has never been stoped in his 32 fights but while he has fought and betten some decent "B" and "C" level oponents he has yet to face anyone on the level of Klitschko let alone an "A" level oponent.
Klitschko has been stoped three times before all by oponents who going into the fights were probbly on the same level that Thompson is at now they all however had more power nome of them Lamon Brewster, Corrie Sanders and Ross Puritty are as tall as Thompson and only Puritty has an equal reach. If these stopages are a result of being caught by men with good power klitschko probbly had nothing to worry about and will win by ko or by a clear decision. On the other hand Klitchko's ko losses are the result of a week chin Thompson could become the fourth man to knockout Klitschko. Also if Thompson can handle Klitchko's punches than he could also get a decision as well.

Klitschko won't lose a decision to any heavyweight, which is a testament to his pure boxing skills.

I think Thompsons only chance is to look to counter Wlad any chance he gets, he wont be able to outbox Wlad, so if I were Thompson I would either come out guns blazing, and look for Wlad to panick as usual when he's being pressured or he can pull an Iggy and try to look for that one big punch to land on Wlads weak chin and hope he falls apart.

I dont give Tony much of a shot at beating Wlad, but if he comes in with heart and shows toughness, that should at least leave him in the fight to later rounds, in which anything could happen, maybe even Wlad gassing out.

Thompson is very overmatched going into this fight.
Nowhere near tested and proven at this level.

Doesn't mean he won't win, but I honestly can't see how. Can't see him having enough power or aggression to win that way, can't see him boxing his way to a points win.

All looks a bit grim for him really.

    Thompson wins the chin comparison

Wlad wins the handspeed, footwork, punching technique, power, experience, quality of opposition, and strength comparison

But Thompson needs to hold those hands up. And keep them up at all times since he really doesn't have to concern himself with body punches. And not drop both hands when he punches. And bring those hands back high after punching as well. Plus, Manny Steward is always pointing out "mental pressure". Thompson is going to have a real tough time with this and having that cabability to concentrate for 3 minutes per round and not get caught looking for jabs & get nailed with another shot he doesn't see coming & just cannot afford to make mistakes with this guy.

I also think Thompson is one of those guys that falls for feints a little bit too much for my liking & that habit coupled with the accuracy of kKitschko is not good either. Plus, Thompson is going to have to be a road warrior in this and one thing American fighters sure don't seem to be very good at is winning in the other guys' backyard.

A tough nights work for sure but boxing has these guys come thru from time to time.

Thompson doesn't have the boxing dynamics to test Klitschko's chin and he can't handle with Klitschko's punches for 12 - 3 minutes rounds ( because he's very much a sitting duck for Wlad's one-twos)... So I wonder why is it that people want to make us believe that this one is something which is not? Just because Thompson is big ( like Austin was) or b'cause people want to see Wlad hurt that bad no matter who is in front of him? Thompson takes this fight because he has no time left to lose at his advanced age and because the WBO screwed him - he was supposed to fight Iggy ever since he beat Krasniqi but Iggy took on Holyfield and Klitschko, lost the title and left no options for Tony...

Has anyone here other then me watched Thompson fight? I dont see how anyone will give him a chance to win. His jabs are slow, his hooks are slower, he is a fairly easy target to hit, he goes to the ropes whenever he is caught. Klitschko's punches will goes right inside of his wide hooks, and Tony is a big target, and is going down.

    I saw Thompson-Krasniqi and Thompson-Ibragimov.
Thompson is consisten but slow. He appears to always come in in shape and he seems to never gas. He keeps a very steady pace all the time. That's a strong side. That's how he beat Ibragimov. Timor was the better boxer but his conditioning was not on par with Thompson's.
I have no idea why the Krasniqi fight was stopped, but then Krasniqi has always been a quitter.
Thompson's negative characteristic would be the inability to keep his hands high. Whenever he throws a punch he's wide open. He drops both his hands to his waist even when he throws only a jab.
He doesn't have a lot of head movement or upper body movement. He prefers to block punches or move back in a straight line.

I just don't know how he is supposed to beat Klitschko (barring a freak accident). If he does that would truly be a miracle.
