I can't - I honestly can't - think of a pro, or even an amatuer fighter with a "slow jab". Klitschko jabs with real authority, but "blazing speed"? It's a properly formed punch without backlift. I don't really know what to say apart from that.

Probably same. I was assume that Ibragimov is fighter who try to win. I was wrong.

I can't believe what i am reading here. Look, I know people hate Wlad for various reasons but to say Tony Thompson has better handspeed is a joke.

Thompson is slow as hell and throws arm punches. I would love for this to be a good competitive fight but I just don't see it Thompson is a big stiff and flat footed like Gerry Cooney was.

And don't you think one reason the Ibragimov fight was so bad was because Sultan refused to engage and just leaned back and crouched the whole fight?

Wlad has 7 KO's in his last 9 fights if he stinks this one up then yes complain but if he KO's Thompson give him some credit for knocking out a stiff.

I don't care who wins, I just want to see an exciting fight. :deal

Yep, blazing speed. When you have the ability to split someone's gloves or fit your jab into a tight spot at will before the opponent can react, which Wlad has done against pretty much every opponent, you have blazing speed on your jabs.

There may not be many with "slow jabs," but there is a dramatic difference in speed of jabs amongst fighters. And Wlad is sitting at the top accompanied by a few.

    Look who he's fighting.

The guy has no exlosiveness and is slow. Great match up for Wlad. At least Thompson will make some money. A left handed version of Austin is what people will call him after this one.

You haven't watched him then. He is Top 10 fighter for a reason. He is good, not great.

Wlad has balzing hand speed. His right hand that knocked down Byrd or hook that took out Austin struck like lighting, and land with the thunding sound of thunder.

In truth, Wlad is faster now than he was in his 20's! Wlad says so, and after wathcing his fights, I tend to agree with him.

I agree that Thompson is under rated. I have thought about this fight a bit, and I think Thompson is going to try to pull a Ross Purity, but Wlad will not take the bait, and will win an easy decsion.

If Thomspon comes to fight, he's getting knocked out.

Liston could do this. It was markedly slow. Many regard it as the best jab in the history of the division. This is accuracy and authority, not blazing speed.

Come on, man, this is what you think of when you think of blazing speed? Not Duran hooking to the body of a right uppercut lead, or a 5 punch RObinson combo? Not the flurries Leonard practiced over and over to draw the judges eyes against Hagler? A jab? A fast jab.

The three best jabs in the game currently, arguably - Kessler, Marquez and Wlad. None of them is markedly fast to me, but all punch with direct authorith and intense accuracy, hallmarks of a great jab.

Speed is almost irrelevant because it is the fastest punch that is thrown form distance. This is why it is the lead punch, this is why great jabs are not always fast jabs.

Povetkin needs to stay the **** away from Wlad until about 2013

Agree to disagree. Being able to fit a jab into tight spaces requires accuracy and power, as you said, but also requires a **** ton of speed, which separates Wlad from many.

Duran? Robinson? I am only referencing and comparing heavyweights to keep it in perspective.

And I am just commenting on Wlad's speed of his jab. Wlad also have ridiculous speed on his left hook, his left hook off the jab, his double jab, the left hook/right hand, etc...pretty much every punch Wlad throws (with the exception of his nonexistent uppercut) is blazing for a heavy. And keeping it relative to his size, it is extraordinary.

I would agree with your 2, but I would substitute Pavlik for Marquez. Kessler's is really nasty.
