1. If were doing allowances era for era, give Louis Wlad's supplements/steroids/nutrition too. BTW Bigger gloves can actually help punchers too by keeping the hand protected. . 2. Foreman's KO of the 6'7 Cooney was pretty brutal as was the KO's of 6'3 Norton and 6'3 Lyle, Foreman in his prime has underrated athleticism and accuracy and sometimes threw 90 punches a round. Wlad collapsed under the pressure from Brewster, Sanders and Purrity, this is another level 3. Liston has an equal/larger reach than Wlad, and was a very accurate puncher and KO artist 4. Frazier is 10times the pressure fighter Brewster was and beat a better boxer in Ali. Wlad doesn't like pressure, Frazier is 1 of the best pressure fighters ever. Again allow Frazier the supplements/steroids/nutrition/weights Wlad has access too 5. I'm not sure Bowe was slower than Wlad, but Bowe would actually make Wlad do something he doesn't like, FIGHT. Bowe was past prime against Golota 6. Ali ko'd Foreman and Liston, he did very well against taller bigger men. 7. Wladdy probably beats Witherspoon, but Witherspoon at his best drags Wlad into deeper waters by putting the pressure on 8. Holy knocked out Douglas, Tyson and Tyson certainly has a better chin than Wlad. Holy was fast, dynamic and brought allot of pressure. I see Holy stopping him late 9. Tyson knocked out many men with heights of 6'4-6'6. Tyson knocks out Wlad within 2, actually I'm not sure if Wlad would make it into the ring without collapsing
HEGrant, you are one sneaky sly devil...Leaving ATG h2h Rocky Marciano off the list while naming all those other great heavyweights.
Just making sure you were paying attention ... over 15 Rocky knocks him into next week ... height aside a terrible match for Klit ... Rocky's crouch makes it hard for Klit to work his jab and at some point, as Rocky gets stronger and Klit gets tired Rocky moves in and it is over ...
I agree with that..I think Rocky has the workrate two fisted power, and relentless stamina to force wladimir into discomfort zone causing him to have a panic attack. not to mention if rocky lands his SuzY Q right hand, wlad will go down and out early. But Wlad would give rocky some trouble. HEgrant how do you see wlad doing against George Foreman?
Joe Louis gets knocked out by Wlad ??? I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but my G-d ... Ali would chop him up and stop him betwen 9 and 12 Holmes would do the same but likely a few rounds sooner. Lennox would flatten him early Bowe would stop him in about six. Liston with is iron chin and 80' plus inch reach would stop him within three. Foreman would make us of his jab, bust him up and stop him. Joe Louis would get inside his jab and knock him out in a few rounds. need I go on ?
I'd definitively pick Frazier & Marciano against Wlad, the rest I'd have to give some fought. I'd thinking maybe he can pull something off against Foreman, unless he gets caught big.
Norton ahead of Wlad on resume? Jeez PP i enjoy people giving him close scrutiny but this might border on silly. Do you really think he beat Holmes? 3 wins over Ali? How long did Norton hold the title and how many defenses did he make? How many years did he stand atop the division? Wlad has not been beaten in 5 years. Can't believe i am sticking up for him
Oh i am not saying he is top 10, no way Jose. I do think saying your entire list would beat him or be favoured as well as likely a dozen more is ridiculous. Each to their own tho.
Wlad... ...What is there to say? He is (aside from maybe his brother) the best heavyweight in the world by a mile, is pretty dominant and is on a very good win streak. He's huge, has good skills and can hit like a mule. But for me, to get into a top 10-12 list all-time (ALL-TIME) you need to be a little bit special. Not just good, big, dominant, skilled etc. Hey guys, it's a damn exclusive list and there's just not enough room for everyone. No matter what's written on Klitschko in the years to come, his early losses and mediocre competition will count against him. Fair or not, it's just the way it is. Others like Louis and Tyson also fought mediocrity (relatively speaking) but Louis held the title for over a decade and made 25 defences. Tyson blew most his opponents away in devastating fashion and combined speed and power like nobody since Dempsey. There was a uniqueness about them that Wlad just doesn't have. People might point to someone like Holyfield and ask what made him great. What did he do that Wlad didn't? Wlad is more dominant, after all. But Holyfield was an undisputed and probably unbeatable cruiserwight who eventually fulfilled 'mission impossible' by beating Tyson, and that was a past-his-best Evander to boot. Tyson looked like murder that night for a while, but Holyfield weathered the storm and won. He also came back from an almost impossible situation (3rd round versus Cooper) and won. ****, into his 40's, completely written off, he should by rights have beaten the gargantuan Valuev. He made a mockery of the form book, did Holyfield. Yes he blew hot and cold sometimes, but when he was hot he was scorching. He was a joy to watch when on song. Fighters like Ali, Louis, Marciano, Holmes and the other usual suspects that make the top 10 leave a lasting impression. Maybe not all were fully appreciated during their primes, but later the impact they made in the sport becomes obvious. I look at Wlad and I just don't see that kind of impact. I don't see a legacy that stands the test of time. I think he's pretty boring, in all honesty. Good yes, but great? GREAT? No.
Again, I truly like the guy and feel he is entitled to the time he is enjoying now. I simply think there were many fighters who would have been able to get past his jab abd get through to that china chin eventually and I listed them. I do not think I went over the top at all. I believe every one of the men listed would beat him ...
Any fighter in the history of the sport that doesnt have infighting or some sort of brawling dimension to their game would have a chance to losing to Wlad. He really is that good of a boxer. The man is huge, has awesome speed for being so big, and has an excellent ability to fight at a distance. I dont care who it is from Ali to Holmes, Wlad has a really good chance in a "boxing match" of winning against any of them. The same could be said for anyone who can take a boxing match and turn it into a fight. From Ross Purrity level fighters on up, they all have a good chance in a fight. To me thats the biggest flaw with this guy, he has such a huge weakness if someone can make it a fight that it will always keep him out of my record books. We havent seen the last of Wladmir flailing around the ring lost, because some mid range fighter has turned it into a brawl and he doesnt know what to do!
Yeah no problem McVey, i haven't been on for over a day so i'm just checking out what i've missed right now.
