Now that Wlad is retired, how was his chin? Was it really as bad as people say? Sure he was knocked down a lot of times, and stopped 4 times, but in one of his losses, he was exhausted. You don't take punches as well when you're tired.
not the greatest but solid at heavyweight anyone can get hurt and rocked wlad was no different but he didnt have the greatest chin over the years he improved on his distance and getting out of range and perfected that style.
His chin was always bloody awful since day 1, Steward did so well making his defence impeccable that his chin was protected, how many times in the past decade before recent years did we see his chin get substantial damage? Takes me onto my next point, i give him alot of stick and im 100% not a fan but Amir Khan could be one of the best even with his paper mache created chin if only he had a good defence. Klitschkos defence was so superior too his opponents offence that the detonation button on his jaw was never pressed
Not Khan tier but it's a glaring weakness. Most fighters with such an obvious weakness don't make it as far as Klitschko did.
not a good chin, but the actual problem is his depth of skill. Hes got a a couple of things that he odes very well, but when faced with someone who broadsides that he cant defend himself and is taken out instantly.
Good but not great. 7/10. What amazes me are the Joshua fanatics who claim he is this dynamic punching ATG fighter yet it still took him 11 rounds to do to a 41yo inactive fighter, what Sanders did in 2 and Brewster did in 5. Wlads chin is vastly underrated, it's his infighting which let him down.
His chin isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I mean he was never out cold (like Lewis-Rahman I). Sure he was down a bunch but he always got back up. Some of the KDs I don't think he was seriously hurt, he just panicked a bit when someone put pressure on him (like Samuel Peter). His early loss to Purrity was a stamina issue, as was his loss to Brewster. His only two bad KO losses were to Sanders and Joshua, both pretty big punchers. The Joshua KO was late in the fight too, if his chin was terrible he would have been out way earlier in the fight. A guy like Price has an awful chin, Klitschko's was actually pretty solid. I'd say like a 7/10.
I don't think his chin was bad, I think he just seemed to panic when he got pressured. That might even account for why he had stamina issues. De La Hoya had the same problem, he wasn't very relaxed in the ring and it was probably why he faded in some fights. Vitali K. and guys like Toney and Mayweather were very relaxed in the ring and it is why they had good stamina (for Toney, earlier in his career obviously).
You look at the massive 11th round uppercut Femi landed on him and he didn't go down. Supposedly iron jawed Kevin Johnson was down and out after a couple of right hands from the same in two rounds. The Sanders fight is of course the main evidence against his chin but he ate several before he was decked there, including a head butt. Peter 1 he was low on confidence but was never that hurt. Overall a decent chin but obviously not great.
His chin was OK, wasn't no iron but if he got rocked, which can happen to anybody in this division, he did everything wrong and all of a sudden became a very easy target.
It is not the worst in championship history (That is likely Bruce Seldon), but, it certainly is below average for championship level. His cautious style, lack of quality challengers, and frequent size advantage kept his chin from getting checked much under Steward. I could not give Wlad more than 6/10.
The green, pre Manny Steward Wlad with severe stamina issues that got KO'd by Sanders/Brewster is far inferior to the version that fought Joshua.
