britard, tell me why gaye never fought someone like peter, chambers, chagaev, povetkin ,areola or adamek, someone that is not 40 and can punch back,why ruiz, barret, valuev and harrison?

And if he had of fought some of those small guys like Chambers and Adamek, you would say "why is Haye fighting small guys and avoiding Valuev!". You know you would.

heavyweight division is weak ,but not as weak as haye's competition ,but he never truly wanted to fight anyone with pulse.

While he IS fighting the #1 at the weight and should be credited for it, let's be honest, Valuevs many limitations had been clearly exposed previously, Ruiz was hugely over the hill as is shown by his record since 2004, Barrett was past it and had been stopped in better style previously, in fact I seem to recall Haye belittling him as a possible opponent initially and Harrison...well c'mon.

 

Haye did over 700k buys against Valuev, Harrison and Ruiz. The Valuev fight did nearly a million, so let's not pretend Haye needs Wlad. He could fight anyone and make huge money. He would also promote the event, as opposed to the Wlad fight, and would make up any deficit in PPV money by doing that.

Every negotiation is public if the fighters want it to be. If they chose to, they can tell the press anything they want. They aren't forced to speak to the press but can if they want. That applies to every promotional company in the world except K2 who van fighters from talking. Nobody else does - nobody.

The negotiations are public if the fighters choose to make them public. That's the difference. Others fighters have a clear choice. K2, because of their business practices, are the only ones who make it a rule that fighters are banned from talking to the press.

 

I get your point Jack. But do not all fighters look for an edge over the oppentent before a fight. The fact K-brothers behave like promoters when promoting and use that as an edge is not a surprise. Haye's intentions are to get under Wladimir skin and make him fight how Haye wants. How is that different to the K-brothers trying to break potential future oppentents when sparring. It is just about getting an edge.

Yes it is disappointing the k-brothers behave like promoters in their business affairs instead of having a soft spot for guys who fight like themselves.

They can only use their position because the division is so weak. Which is back to my earlier point. Guys only become great fighters when they have great fights. These days heavyweights contenders role along the production line and never get great fights. Then all of a sudden they are in a world title fight.

If the crap (33+) had to fight to keep their ranking regularly and were kicked out of the top hundred rankings when they lost. The young fighters would get the experience fighting them and arrive equipped.

The k-brothers would lose their grip because the punters would have exciting heavyweight fights. The reason Wladimir is fighting Haye is Haye is exciting. The k-brothers only set the terms because the division is weak.

I suppose the answer to the question is 'yes to a degree', the solution is not the k-brothers changing but the division.

The WBC made Klitschko mandatory sure, but Lewis didn't have to fufil the obligation till December if I recall.

Lewis may have offered the same 20% as K2. But Lewis pulled in more money courtesy of HBO. 20% of a Lewis purse is a good bit more than 20% of a K2 purse plus with most opponents fighting in America they didn't have to travel.
All in all more money with the bonus of fighting at home is a far more appealing.

Message to the OP:

The Klits spend an enormous amount of time & money on various charities. They've also set up numerous boxing gyms and other youth centers in impoverished neighborhoods throughout the world.

Yet, according to you & a few other Haye-natics, the Klits treat their opponents & sparring partners like indentured slaves.
