In boxing, it is a **** position to be #2. That's just the way it is. These guys sometimes have a really bizarre opinion on what they are worth and what they think the total revenues are for a fight. I remember Paul Williams' buddy on this board, NBA, saying why should Paul accept a one million dollars when Kelly is going to make ten million? :rofl But that is boxing. Having the title that someone else wants gives you a huge edge so you can offer take it or leave it deals. If you think it is just the Klitchko's you are TRYING your hardest to be biased. Someone is always willing to fight for a belt on the champs terms because they are, first and foremost, competitors and believe in their abilities. That is what makes them what they are.
I understand where you're coming from, but somebody like Don King is a ****. It's expected. But if the Klitschko's are doing this on one hand, why on the other hand, are they making it out like they are total gentlemen? To be a gentleman is more than just holding a door open or being polite - It's a total code of ethics.. Starting with your word being your bond. Also, belts aren't always the biggest factor - Hence why Haye would earn more in a fight against Fraudley, then either of the K brothers did against Briggs or Sam Peter.. Haye brings in MILLIONS from PPVs, and the Klits bring 1.5 Million. I'm not saying 50/50 isn't fair, but what I AM saying is belt or no belt, a contract should at least attempt to reflect what each party brings to the table. *1.5 Million due to there being no PPV in Germany (Where the majority of Klits TV money comes from). That is how much RTL roughly pay the Klits per fight.
We aren't privy to the negotiations. We have had people make this claim both ways. It could just be the expectations of different parties, but more likely, the **** games boxing promoters play. They go in wanting a certain amount for themselves and that may leave little to pass through to the fighter so they tell their guy all sorts of wild ****. Like Povetkin. According to Atlas he backed out of the fight because the total purse, $2 mill, left virtually nothing for him. How many fights with the Klitchko's have actually fallen through? This was a none issue until Haye started whining as I recall.
Good post. However, you could argue what has Haye done to grant himself the luxury of having the clout to dictate the proceedings? Wladimir has been the 'man' at heavyweight for a long time so he is entitled to the perks - not Haye. Seriously, what grants Haye to call the shots? Wladimir is basically on the same level as Mayweather, Pacquiao, but at heavyweight. Haye may have the WBA belt but that's it. Haye is in no position to say what goes here. And like you said, Haye is the one who wanted the fight, and (to be honest) talked himself into a fight with Wladimir without any real credentials at heavyweight apart from beating Valuev. The only reason Wladimir wants this fight is because he wants that WBA belt, if Haye didn't have a belt, Wladimir wouldn't be fighting Haye. People think Haye is being hard done by but that's far from the truth. If Haye beats Wladimir, you can bet Haye will be calling the shots and demanding the biggest purse if a showdown with Vitali happens. But in his defence, he'd have earned the right to carry leverage in dictating the negotiations.
Briggs?? when reporter asked briggs what was his opinion about hayes accusations and how were Klits taking care of him, Briggs replied saying everything is FANTASTIC.
I don't know anything personally of course but I have found the 'birds of a feather' thing to hold more often than not. We all know what CHEF is like and his is more than a business relationship with the brothers. Yeah, the business of boxing seems to be as tough as the 'in ring' part of it though and people are jockying for the best deal they can cut for themselves and this will lead to differing viewpoints. I'm not sure why this keeps coming up. Is there no BOXING to discuss?
we all know why haye went after valuev, don't we? the klits were giving out contracts that weren't worth pissing on. david wanted something to bargain with. he got that with the WBA title. it's only right that david gets paid what he's worth. he's brought massive interest to the heavyweight scene, so it's only fair. david got what he wanted... now he's fighting wlad. he will be crowned the undisputed champ in two weeks time. trust me.
That doesn't mean he fought the best available guys. You forgot to mention the IBF title which was held by Cunningham and then Adamek, the two best fighters in the division besides Haye. Haye never got around to fighting either of those guys.
Many of the complaints go back to the days the Klitschkos were promoted by Universum. Plenty of them strike me as pure bull**** too. The sort of thing duckers use as an excuse The champion walks out second. That's how it is in boxing, why would the challenger expect that to change? Claiming Wlad and Haye have some sort of equivalence as champions is complete ****
Mormeck was #1. If you didn't follow boxing then or didn't follow the cruiser division please refrain from commenting on something you clearly know nothing about.
