When your heavyweight champion of the world or at least hold several belts as does Vladimir......you in theory hold alot of influence over who you match yourself with.

I feel boxing and in fact combat sport itself......are amongst the toughest and most exciting sports in the world yet with least structured.....and organisation.

Why we accept elite fights fighting 3 times a year is beyond me......its becoem so cultural to accept this that we think a fighter is active if he even dares to do so.

When you see elite tennis players, football (soccer), NFL, basketball, etc they tend to particpate in matches that number 30 plus each year.

Now we are not asking for this as we know that wear and tear on the body through fighting is far great than your average sport in other areas.

BUT.....why cant we see fighters fight 4, 5 or even 6 times a year......yes with television, marketing etc that is hard.......but to make boxing an elite sport then activity should be high amonst importance.

Of course if a fighter for example say Cotto loses and takes a pounding in the process....then its acceptble for him to not fight for some time after.....but if a fighter like say Vald who holds one of top spots in the division hasnt taken a good punch or a proper pounding in 4 years or so.......then activity should be far greater. Thats goes for all fighters. I think fighters when they get to the top hold to much sway.......becuase power corrupts......look at Margarito......tough, tough man.......yet the min he is in postion of top dog.....he takes himself away from the likes of P. Williams.......as it a hard fight/ low reward sit for him. We need a situation where one commitee have the power over the fighters in the sense that they tell them where and when to fight....

Anyhow i dont see how Wlad for example cannot do this.....for 2009-

March C. Arreola IBF, WBO, IBO
    May R. Purrity IBO
July D. Haye IBF, WBO, IBO
    Sept C. Sanders IBO
Dec A. Povetkin IBF, WBO, IBO

3 up and coming guys and two other in between fights where he can avenge his losses...

Sanders is retired after his recent embarrasing loss.

Wlad has until September to fight Povetkin.

I think he'll fight Arreola or Haye in May, and then Povetkin in September.

How badly do Wlad fans want him to be Lennox Lewis?

There's no point him avenging his losses now. Lennox did his straightaway to prove he was the man, no point going after your washed up conquerers to try and prove a point.

Regardless.........im just trying to think of how Wlad could easily fight 5 times a year...........Sanders.....well if you cant him (yes i know he is way past it and that he suffered a one round knockout) get someone else. These are fights where he could make a cool million.......there a certain angle on it......yes it isnt a big fight but he lost previosly to this man.......how we know if he can actually beat him? We fans have to work on theory and speculation.......where Federer and Nadal have met 12 or so times, LA lakers meet there best oponenets several times.......Man utd play chelsea 20 times in 4 years etc.

If he has free fights.....like the two in between.....course people will watch it would also lead to a higher possibilty that the real big important fights can be PPV.......haye, Povetkin.

Lets look at another fighter.....Pacman......with the influence he has could easily fight more than 3 times a year......maybe he could fit in some revenge fights.......to go along with the big ones he might set up like........hatton, margarito, mosely, mayweather.

Just trying to think out loud.....how to improve boxing.

Maybe a worldwide commission which does not rank, or give belts......can have a monthly, annunel meeting on how to improve boxing.....the big 4 can meet up.......wbo, wba, ibf, wbc.....and universal rules applied.

No a Vlad.........i dont think he is as good as Lennox, holy, tyson, holmes, ali, joe louis..........so that puts that into perspective.

I used Vlad as he supposed to be the man at heavy....or at least along with his brother. I just want boxing the sport i love to be better regulated.

Id deffo watch all of those matchups.

The reason we moan about a fight like Rahman.....is becuase it was one of his big matchups of the year......we get deprieved of having to see just 3 fights a year.......i think its crazy.

If your the man in your division........you should be willing to put it on line at all times, as frequently as possible.

For example..........how can we can say vitali is as good we all think he is?

I mean since his loss to Lewis in 2003 he has had 4 matchups against sanders, johnson, williams, and peter. Fair play he dominated and beat all those guys proving he was the better figher........but seriously take a backward step.......how can an elite fighter of our sport have only 4 different oppoents to say im one of the best.

Williams, Johnson and Peter are all short, overweight heavies.....ok so we know he can handle them

Sanders was fast and hard hitting and techincally a low standard....check

But we dont call Mand Utd the top dog for beating......just 4 opponents all year do we?

Or La Lakers (not sure of they top dog).......by having just play 4 different teams in 6 months.

Yet again.......i know fighters cant fight 20 times at the top level........but 6 times should be the norm.......not once, or twice

Yeah that would be exciting......for him to take on 3 different opponents all up and coming in 3 different countires.

Im not a vlad fan..........said it several times........i think last year he was below par......in fact i believe Haye or Povetkin could well beat him.

I use this guy as he is young enough, has 2 major belts and one minor...for him and OTHERS to start changing our sport.

My examples on other sports.......are for us to take a step back and think......we are not asking for 100 times, 50 times or even 10 times a year at the elite level.

5 or 6 times yes.........it can be done.

Of course fighters put there lives on the line.........its obvious......F1 drivers and MMA do aswell.........yet MMA fighters in the early days would fighter 3 or 4 times in one night.

If Vlad was involved in a cotto like fight where he got a severe pounding...fair enough if u take ur time after this.....but its not the case.

In fact..........if we force rules, regulations it would make our sport far harder to compete in..........i beleive we would be seeing our figthers come in better shape etc........since they have to fight so often.

Maybe a fat per cent rule needs to be in place.........

no way can a heavyweight champ fight 5 times a year. It's not all up to Wladimir. You have to schedule a huge venue, you have to deal with the sanctioning bodies, you have to find when suitable opponnents are available. You have to have time to train for each different opponnents different styles. Do you think Don King would just let Wlad fight Valuev without long negotiations? How about Chagaev, his health is a big question mark as to his availability. This is why champs throught the last 50 years don't fight more than two to three times a year.

It would not be a problem for HBO as they air Wlad's fights from Germany all the time... but it would be an issue for the German TV networks since Wlad and Valuev are signed to competing channels. Same problem they initially had with Povetkin(and Povetkin is promoted by the same guy at Valuev)

he will probably fight 2 out of:

    Haye
    Arreola
    Povetkin

He should fight in March and not wait until June to fight Haye because if he waits he will only get in 2 fights in 2009.

Wlad needs to fight 3 times a year.

    Wlad & Vitali: RTL
Valuev & Povetkin: ARD (via their common promoter Sauerland Event)

I would like to see him fight all three. he has gone on the record as saying those three guys are on his hit-list for 2009. :happy
I would not be surprised if he only manages fighting two due to a breakdown in contract negotiations.

Yeah, cuz avenging a loss to a crackhead who's going through a nervous breakdown while in the ring means a lot, right? It's not Lennox's fault that McCall wasn't 100% but let's be realistic shall we?

It may also be hard for him to secure 3 HBO dates in '09 since he had 3 in '08 with the last of them being just in December. I remember in '07 he wanted to fight a 3rd time, and they said that HBO had already used up their budget for that year, and Wlad refuses to have his fights put on PPV.
