I doubt he would even make it into the top 10 of any of the ridiculous organizations. It's an embarrassment to the legacy of the 50's that he made it as high as he did in the division.
\ Cockell's boxing ability is a matter of opinion, he was always thought of as being an average contender and Euro belt holder. However, it was obvious that luck and careful management got him his title shot and despite his high ranking he was not thought of as potential threat or worthy challenger to Marciano. Lets not pretend he was a world beater in the 50s, though he was hardly the worse fighter in history to squeeze into the top 5. But your argument based on physical stature has no merit: "He was a scant 5-11, 210 pounds with a 71 inch reach. And this was not a ripped, athletic dynamo of the likes of Tyson, Dempsey or Frazier... rather it was this... The tedium of argumentation wherein some propose these tiny, flabby weak fighters are anything near what would pass for a heavy in today's era is unbearable." James Toney 5'10", 72", and a flabby 190-233 lbs with posititve steroid tests. A top 5 heavyweight for several years.
Yeah, Toney is rather **** as a heavyweight, I agree. He pops up once in the heavy rankings of Ring's annual, based mostly on too much import being given to his Holyfield and Ruiz victories. However, he was uniquely skilled, almost an aberration in such, and that served him well at heavyweight. I think he would wipe the floor with Cockell, stopping him quicker than Marciano due to much more precise punching, which the Rock was lacking in that fight.
-A theoretical match up between Cockell and Toney is irrelevant. However, outside of the Slade fight, Cockell's best performances were against slick smart boxers like Matthews, LaStarza, and Williams. It was physically powerful punchers Marciano and Valdez who demolished him. I would favor Toney but I'm not sure he stops him, with old Holyfield being his only significant stoppage win at heavyweight. Depends on how motivated James is.
This is a horrible match up for Rocky. He's at such a disadvantage here. So much smaller, so much shorter, and would need to be so close to even land, he'd be easily tied up, as he is also weaker. I struggle to see Rocky not getting badly stopped eventually, here. I see no way for him to make this a dogfight. He'd have a REALLY tough time getting to Wlads chin with enough power to do damage.
I really wish the mods would ban this waste of space. I can't believe he's actually taking the time to respond to every single one of my taunts..., I guess there aren't enough Marciano threads in classic at the moment so he's bored. He's trying reallly really hard with Baer but clealry the magic just isn't there.
