Just read an interview with Wladimir in a German newspaper (Bild) and thought I'd share this:

Bild: How would a fight between you and Vitali look like?
Wladimir: That would be a battle! With due respect to my brother
it would be about sportive honor. And we are both very ambitious and none of us would retreat.

Bild: What yould be your strategy in this fight?
Wladimir: We know eachother too well, all strengths and weaknesses. But if I revealed my strategy against him now then I would give Vitali's next opponent, Samuel Peter, very important tips. And I want it by no means.

Bild: Have you been in the ring with Vitali during training?
Wladimir: Yes, as amateurs we sparred.

Bild: Who won the sparring duels?
Wladimir: It went back and forth but I must admit, my brother had mostly won. But we noticed soon that in those heated brother sparrings either one could be injured so we stopped it before we moved to Hamburg in order to become professional boxers.

Bild: Until now you have refused such a bout. Would you change your mind if someone offered you 20 million Euros?
Wladimir: Money means a lot in life, but there are things where money is no object anymore. What is all the money worth compared to the heart of a mother? I know that my mother's heart wouldn't withstand a fight between her two sons.

Bild: Is there nobody who could change your mother's mind?
Wladimir: If any then it would be my father. Because he is the patriarch, he is pulling the strings in the family.

Bild: Would a combination between the strengths of you and Vitali make a perfect boxer?
Wladimir: My technique, speed and footwork combined with Vitali's amazing punch and physical stability could make a complete box champion. Vitali's boxing is very effective. And: Many opponents have underestimated him in the past. I would like to have this attribute too. (lol)

Bild: Who would win in a fight between you and Vitali?
Wladimir: Because I love my bro I would say Vitali takes this- but only on points!

    :bbb :bbb

I'd like to believe it, but brother vs brother and friend vs friend battles almost always seem to be tepid borefests with each guy not willing to inflict more than minimal damage on the other because hey, I like the guy. Perfectly understandable but not great to watch.

Firstly, they sparring when they were amateurs. Wlad won olympic gold medal age of 20 and then go to pro. Vitaly is 5 years older...wlad is polite dude and like his brother a lot.

    There are notable exceptions ;)

Still, if this was ever to really happen, can anyone possibly imagine a scenario where (for instance) Vitali knocks his bloodied brother into a corner and knows he can put him down with a big barrage of head shots...then does it?

    I just can't.

Very interesting interview, thank you for reproducing it here.

I have a preference for Vitali myself, but I wish he would **** off now, let Wlad get on with things.

Nope, I couldn't imagine it... if the two were to ever actually meet in the ring I'd suppose Vitali would carry Wlad and win a wide and decisive UD. That is if Vitali still has the goods.

Great interview. Brothers will be brothers and no amount of money can make them go at each other. Besides, how many of you will fight your brother in professional boxing? I won't.

VITALI: Yes, brother. But I smashed your frickin face in.
