Apologies if this has already been discussed, but this is TERRIBLE NEWS!! February 2008? WTF? That's unacceptable! If Wladimir wants to continue being considered the top attraction in the heavyweight division he cannot have long periods of inactivity. This is ****ing ridiculous!
Yes it is. He has beat every opponent thrown at him, and avenged a previous loss. Name one opponent that will give him "trouble" inside the ring. Klitschko is in a hole different ball game comapred to the other champs.
Yep! He's in his prime and is the best talent in the HW division and the morons at HBO ****ed things up so that he won't be fighting again this year? Ridiculous.
Another blackmark on the sport, we know promoters and corrupt ABC's control who fights who, but now H fukin BO. so a TV org also controls who and when he fights so that it's good for there audience.
If HBO had any smarts whatever, they'd just let Wlad fight someone--ANYone--before the end of the year in a voluntary defense. HBO doesn't get it!
im confused now... wasn't it the hand injury that delayed his next fight? or was that just to cover up the fact HBO are morons? one thing is certain, if sultan or holyfield are serious about unifying, then there will be no problems making that fight in febuary 2008. that's like 4 months. hell, if they want an extra month or two give them that and i'll be happy to see wladimir unified champ despite the big delay between his fights
I read the hand was the problem, too, but as you said, that may be a coverup excuse. But if everyone else out there is fighting someone else, Wladimir would have to fight an unknown or an undeserving B level opponent, and he'd certainly get slammed, nine ways to Sunday, for doing that, as we all know. So maybe waiting til there's a meaningful opponent available is not such a bad move. Maybe this wait means that his next fight will be a unification fight. I certianly would not doubt that possibility. :good
7 months isn't that long a layoff. He fights 2 -3 times per year which is not much different than most heavyweight champs/contenders. Sure I wish he fought 3-4 times a year, but why single him out?
It would be better for him even to KO old Sanders just to stay active. Best would have been for him to fight Thompson in November, eliminating Thompson from WBO contention. This would have freed the Ibragimov-Holyfield winner to unify against him early next year.
