    No it wasn't.

Guys like Tucker, Thomas, and Spoon were better than guys like Peter, Maskaev, and Sultan.

it doesn't matter when he beat them, the point is he was still fighting this decade, therefore he is the best fighter of this decade, from 2000-2008 has there been anyone better than lewis?

accomplishments in a decade should be the barometer of the top fighter of a decade, not merely participating in the decade when a lot of your best work was done in a previous decade.

duran's best work was done in the 1970s, he was up and down in the 1980s, was he the top fighter of the 80s?

He was too busy getting dropped from rabbit punches.

If Peter had good skills, he would seriously hurt someone with those dangerous illegal punches.

He won the fight and would do so quicker in a rematch as Steward has become effective.

If you watch the fight, you will see Wlad clinched 90+ times, he got hurt often in that fight. Wlad chose to turn his back and continue to hold Peter, Peter pushed him off and punched down to the ground. The rules are clear, if you turn your back or put your head down to avoid a punch, thats your problem if he hits you in the back of the head. Watch the ref explain these specific rules to James Toney before he fought Sam Peter.:deal

You got me wrong, I don't care much for Peter and Wlad.

I call it as I see it.

Wlad holds too much and Peter rabbit punches too much, causing 2 of the knockdowns against Wlad (though Wlad's panicking when a punch whizzed within 4 inches of his head most likely played a role)

Peter's tactics bother me more since rabbit punches are very dangerous while clinching just makes for dull fights.

Just because a ref doesn't see it or enforce it, it doesn't make it not a foul or illegal tactic.

The ref didn't enforce Wlad's excessive holdings, or see Golota bite Pouha, or DQ Saddler against Elorde, it doesn't mean it ain't a foul.

Peter frequently rabbit punches, not just against Wlad.

Refs should look for it and enforce it because it can seriously hurt someone. That's at the brain stem. It's the most dangerous foul in boxing.

Nope, if you look at it closer, its more a sign of the weakest heavyweight division ever.....
