That Thompson was able to land on Wlad wasn´t cause he was southpaw. Byrd was southpaw too, but eventhough he was much faster and more elusive as Thompson, he wasn´t able to cope with Wlad´s jab. Thompson was, cause of his size and reach, not cause of his southpaw stance. As i said, Vitaly is even faster than Thompson, not even Lennox was able to win a jab debate with Vitaly. Wlad´s chin is better than i think ? As soon as someone (even journeymen as Panell and Puritty) reached his chin, Wlad went down, so off course his chin is weak. From a technical standpoint Wlad may be better than Vitaly, but lack of toughness, lack of chin makes Vitaly the better fighter. That´s why Vitaly would win a fight between them. You don´t know boxing stuff, you´re just a hardcore fan of a boxer, trying to defend Wlad in every way, you would not even see his obvious faults. You love him so much that you even love his trainer and team members (Stewart, Lee, Banks, Jermain Taylor, as long as he was with Manny). Every time someone critizizes them, you´re in to defend them. That´s really fanatic and has nothing to do with love for boxing, but with loving a boxer. [/quote]
If it was 4 years ago or prime vs prime, I would bet everything I had on Vitali. Wlad today has improved alot, his defense is much tighter and now knows not to try to fight when hurt, just clinch. Wlad is physically superior to Vitali, but not by that much. While mentally Wlads about as fragile as breakaway glass, the guy melts or panics at the sign of danger. Vitali will put Wlad in that position, and if pressures him a bit, Wlad may fall apart as usual. People must remember, Wlads the better boxer, Vitali's the better fighter.
@rapidfire When i watched my first boxing fights on TV Wladimir was not born and i think you too. Boxing sport had a long tradition in my family and my grandpa was a great Ali-Fan and i saw my first Wladimir fight life toghether with him in Aachen in 1997. At this time this man told me, that this young heavyweight where a sensation. A tall boxer who can move, who can punch, everything wonderful. And this man (he himself boxes as a middleweight when he was young) told me, that Wladimir needs a professional coach and not an DDR Amateur coach! He speaks the truth. Wlads losses had nothing to do with a weak chin. His chin is not weak, his defence was too bad for professional boxing. But for Wlad it was not to late in 2004. Now he is on the top again and better than before. With Emanuel Steward he shows the great potential he had. He is the No 1 Heavyweight and he would win against his brother.
Then why does he panic and fall apart when the going gets tough and the pressure is on? If you really think Wlad could of took what Vitali has from fighters such as Lewis and Sanders, your sadly mistaken. Vitali is by far tougher, never been down. Wlad has been dropped 11 times in his career, and knocked out in 3 of those contests. Stats dont lie, his nuthuggers do. I dont mind you as a poster Jisi, but you cant turn a blind eye to Wlad and his weaknesses just because he's your favorite fighter. I have watched him live on tv since early 2000's very closely, and have watched most of his fights starting in 96 when he made his pro debut. He has improved his defense greatly with Manny, but he still appears fragile when the oppenent starts to make it a fight, instead of a boxing match, where Wlad is most comfrotable and safe. Vitali destroyed Peter, Wlad struggled and looked horrible in victory when he fought Peter 4 years back this very month. Wlad is extremely talented physically, mentally he still has issues. Vitali is one of the good heavyweights still around, that would test Wlad's weak chin and mental physche, the question is will he pass? I personally doubt it.
The Peter who fights Wladimir was not the Peter who fights Vitali. Wlad did not panic. He fights hard against Thompson, he puts pressure on Wlad. And i cannot see that he is fragile. He had problems against Peter, because Peter was strong and he was undefeated and because of the things happened against Brewster. Wlad fights against Peter and against the memories of the Brewster and Puritty fight. Peter took all the hard shots from Wlad like Puritty and Brewster. But this time Wlad had the stamina to go 12 hard rounds. He is a human not a machine. But he wins this fight and Steward was great in the corner. Without Manny Wlad had lost. It was a lot of pressure on Wlad not only in fight night. For the first time in his life "Wlad did it his way", with this fight he becomes an adult! The fight against Peter was very important, he had problems, but he won and it was not a boxing match, it was a "war"! And Wlad shows that he can handle it with the help from Steward.
Wlad is faster, stronger, better foot work, better jab and 1 punch KO power. Vitali has the chin. Wlad by KO
It was not a war, Peter wanted to engage, Wlad wanted to clinch and throw his jab on the outside. I dont remember at anytime both men going punch for punch, thats one type of fight Wlad would lose very badly against most oppenents, especially a fighter like Peter who has power and a chin. Wlad's chin is way too weak to go to war, he tried that against Sanders and was destroyed.
Vitali would clatter Wlad in 5 rounds and the sad thing about it is it wont even happen because there mother wont leave it.
