For one, Wladimir's gold medal seems to be less respected in general than Lennox's. So I've noticed, anyway. Activity is another issue. I'm impressed with Wladimir's activity, earlier in his career anyway. He's had 54 fights as we speak, over a 12 year career. He's obviously got a solid number of fights left in him. Lennox, 44 fights over a almost exactly 14 year career. As for losses... Lennox's were to two medicore fighters, Wladimir's has three to equally meh fighters. What's strange is that two of them are examples of the other fighter coming in confident. Corrie Sander's was extremely confident, in shape and even use hypnotism prior to his fight with Wlad. McCall came in equally prepared against Lennox, and made the most out of it. Thoughts?
Wlad has more talent but is even more cautious than Lennox was in bouts. Lewis commented that Klitschko does not ultilize a varied arsenal even though he has it.
Lennox Lewis was a formidable fighter. At his best and most focused he would be dangerous for any guy out there. He was huge, he had skills, he had huge power. I see him having much more trouble with some of the smaller guys than the other huge guys he was fast enough to tee off on ... Wlad is a well schooled, well conditioned fighter with a terrific arsenal ... his problem is that he has a very average chin and fights to minimize it getting crushed ... Lennox was significantly better ...
Lewis is the better champion he fought much better fighters and never ducked anyone the same can;t be said of Wlad.
Wlad made 15 million in his last fight. Harldy poor. Lewis is a little better talent wise, but its not a huge gap in talent. If Lewis had 10 more fights like Wlad did, their record would be the same.
Wlad had more fights because he hung around in Germany fighting bums and stiffs nobody has ever heard of in front of a crowd that thinks its a big deal when he beats Ray Austin!!!! Lewis was fighting for the British, Commonwealth and European championships by his 15th fight.
Wlad turned pro at age 22. Lewis was 26, I think. So yes, Wlad needed a few tune up fights. My point is at heavyweight any match can end quickly. By fighting more, Wlad risked more. Some of Wlad's early fights were vs punchers. Koch, Wolfgram, Jackson, and Panell.
Lewis was bit more fluid, relaxed and let go when an opponent was hurt but in the same respect, Vlad deals with tension beter and has improved in this area....It is hard to say at this point how good Vlad can be...He is in his prime now....As far as power Vlad holds back but has a better Jab,powerfull right hand but lewis put the hook and the right together better and changed up more...Vlad can be a little stiff and preditable....Both are the best of the BIG men with Vitali having a short career and losing some props he could have gained in the last 4 yrs. As far as measuring Vlad against Lennox, we will have to see how the chips fall, Lewis is done with his career, Vlad still has a few fights left...51-3 45 KO's...not bad......10 more fights in the next 3 yrs will tell a lot more
What would you have said if Wlad hadn´t fought Austin and would have been stripped because he didn´t? And yeah, we Germans know nothing about boxing but you do, you are a little bit ******ed, aren´t you?
Wladimir has comparable physical tools, perhaps even better, but Lewis fights much more confident and takes the better shot. The British fighter is willing to take more risks, but as a consequence, Wlad's jab is more consistent and even if it is a robotic style, he is an excellent ring general. However, it's hard to judge at this point. The best of Wlad may be yet to come, but we could also witness a Rahman/Lewis-like loss the next years. Time will tell. One thing i'm quite sure of though: Lewis will likely end up the greater fighter and had better, more known opposition to make a name with.
How many losses would Wlad have if he fought: Prime Tua Past Prime (but a last hurrar) Holyfield (twice) Prime Vitali Prime Golota Prime Rudduck Prime Rahman (twice) Prime McCall (twice) Prime Grant Prime Briggs Prime Mercer Past Prime Tyson (but dangerous/fast/powerful) Prime Morrison Bruno (mental prime, physically past prime) Past Prime Tucker Biggs Mason Thats some resume of BIG hitters, more skilled operators than Wlads faced and better skillsets than Wlads faced. Frankly all have a shot against Wlad and plenty would be big favourates. Wlad would have at least 5 losses from those contenders
