Shannon Briggs has remarkably claimed that he’s accepted a fight with Wladimir Klitschko, whom he insists is making a comeback.

The American former heavyweight champion admitted details are vague at present, explaining he’d only just been approached about the contest.

Briggs confronted Klitschko on multiple occasions when he pursued a title shot in 2014/15

However, he said he’d accepted the proposal straight away.

Briggs told the Sky Toe2Toe podcast: “Fate has it as it is, just today I accepted to fight Wladimir Klitschko in his comeback fight.

“You’re the first person to know it, my wife don’t even know this, she’s outside, she don’t even know this.

“You guys are the first people to know this, I swear to God, on my mother’s grave.

“No-one knows this, you’re the first people to know this.”

Since he retired following his defeat to Anthony Joshua in 2017, Klitschko has dropped a few comeback hints.

There have been suggestions over the past four years that he could return once he is old enough to break George Foreman’s record as the oldest man to win a heavyweight world title.

Foreman was 45 when he beat Michael Moorer in 1994 and held a belt until he was 46.

Klitschko turned 45 in March, while Briggs is 49.

When asked if this will be a legimitate professional contest or an exhibition, Briggs added: “I don’t know.

“They just called me today, I wanna say an hour ago, two hours ago, and said, ‘Hey, you wanna fight Wladimir Klitschko?’

    “I said, ‘Yeah.’

“I haven’t even told anybody yet, I’ve been on the phone with my other businesses.

“They didn’t have to ask me twice. As soon as they called me and asked, ‘Would you like to fight Klitschko?’ I said, ‘Let’s go, champ!'”

This must be the 7th or 8th time i have read a serious story about Wladimir making a comeback fight after retiring. Each one is less credibile than the first.

I will believe it when I see him in the ring.

Wlad is 45, Briggs is 49. This should not happen.
A guy dying in a fight in his late forties or fifties will kill boxing.
It will be banned in many places.
If you love the sport, hope this doesn't happen.

Damn, if looking seriously, he had net worth in xxx xxx xxx digits before fight vs Pulev.
Why he needs to box now? For money reason most likely he did not needed even this fight vs Pulev for example, already was rich and 38.

If Briggs and Klitschko do fight which I doubt I hope the beat each other to permanent once and for all retirement. What do they offer the division. Nothing. No big paydays for the major players at heavyweight and no history.
