Every time Sultan got close and tried to punch Wlad did his samuel Peter honed trick of holding, clamping his arm around and leaning hence why Sultan went for the takedown which should have given him a 10-8 round on the scorecards lol, well if its ok for wlad to foul constantly with his hugs and slapping with his forearm then why not anyone else!

Its legal. Besides Wlad was active with his jab. The onus is on the other guy to throw punches too.

In all fairness Mendoza, I think he was fighting a man who simply couldn't hit him, and was afraid to make any real effort to.

as most know im a huge wlad fan, but my first responce to this would be, well... mayweather and wright are usually fighting guys who are at their eye level, wlad is fighting a guy who is 4 inches shorter then he is.. about... so it should be a little bit easier for him to avoid punches.

That being said... you bring up very good photos and a good point ;)

and seriously, i just cant take any boxing fan that shits on wlad for that performance seriously. did he have offensive flaws as far as engaging goes? yeup. did he win 10 out of 12 rounds with one punch against an olympic silver medalist and undefeated titleholder? yup.

    :huh

There was very little holding or clinching until late in the fight when Sultan was fighting more desperately.

Right. Some of these posters here don't have a clue. If there was any fouling it was Ibragimov's wrestling tactics.

Many taller boxers utilize that same technique, I never thought it was illegal. Lewis used his as a range-finder similar to the way Wlad uses his. It's a fighting style that leaves the body exposed to draw the opponent into swinging for the body so you can counter them. Vitali does it too, but very awkwardly...............

Ibragimov never had a problem hitting ANYONE before Wlad in any of his pro or top-level amateur fights. Wlad is just too big, too fast, too skilled, too smart and too technical. Credit Wlad's defense.

If Ibragimov threw caution into the wind, I think he gets knocked out.

I don't really blame Sultan, he just couldn't get inside that jab or that defense without diving or wrestling. Even when he did Wlad had that power to push him off and he was timing Iggy pretty good.

    Oh common.......

No disrespect intended here, but Ibragimov was no offensive master and we both know it. Just because he outpointed ancient versions of holyfield and briggs doesn't mean he's going to land on a guy who actually has a heart beat, no matter what his defense looks like. Ibragimov was terrified in there and spent most of the night crouching, clinching or running. Just because he would dangle his right hand out their only to get batted down by Klitschko's left, doesn't indicate anything spectacular on the part of Wlad's defense. As for Wlad being too technical and skilled, the only thing I saw from him most of the night was the left jab in Ibragimov's face. That's it. There wasn't any defensive stances, or any serious dodging of deadly bombs that stand out in my mind.

Wlad did enough to win, although thats not enough all the time. Know what i mean? I just hope he does a bit more next time round, then hopefully people will forget this one dull fight.

I have seen many of Ibragimov's fights. He whiffed on more big shots vs Wlad than all of his other fights combined. Wlad is not a statue in there. I say again he has good footwork, good blocking, understands distance / angles, and can clinch extremely well. Watch the fight again. You'll see Sultan missed plenty from the outside, and when he does connect its on the gloves, arms or shoudlers, not the chin, face, liver or solar-plexus.

While Klitschko's height and jab is a defense all by itself, there is a lot more too it, as the pictures illustrate. Very few fighters can out fight and hope to land on Wlad. To hit Wlad one has to risk getting hit on the way in, and countered after they throw. Iggy did not want to do that.

If Wlad battering down Ibragimov's lead right made Iggy uncomfortable, then it worked.

  15. This fight sucked:-( plain and simple...
