Big promotion for who? The tiny minority of people who actually care about boxing? Wlad/Haye is the biggest heavyweight fight in such a long time and it deserves to be promoted as such. If it isn't, it'll go down as being a throwaway fight when it has genuine potential to crossover into the mainstream. If it's promoted right, the fight would be huge but I think it's simply impossible to get close to promoting it right, given the time restrictions. At the most, I could realistically see two weeks of hype. That's not enough for a fight which would be huge. Heavyweight boxing needs this fight to be big.
Fair enough Jack and honestly, I can see why you would see it that way. Theres a few ways of looking at this. - Its Wlads fault. The Haye fight is right there for him to take, and all he has to do is not fight Chisora and he will be meeting Haye in July. - Its Hayes fault. Wlad STILL WANTS to fight Haye in July, its not Hayes job, or fans job, to guess at what Wlad can and cant do. Haye is turning the fight down because, Wlad wants to fight in the meantime? - Its both of their faults. The reality is its on both of them to make this fight. But, while I lean towards that its Hayes fault for walking away from this fight (because, IMO, its not his place or anyone elses to tell the champ what he can and cant do BEFORE they fight... as long as Wlad shows up in July to fight Haye, that is all that matters) I can totally see where you are coming from as well.
Wlad vs Haye doesn't need a lot of promotion. The fight was already promoted for 2 years... and extremely promoted for 6 months the last time they were supposed to fight. They have already shown they can sell 60,000 tickets 2 years ago. BTW, you can't get much better promotion than Wlad fighting the #2 Heavyweight in the UK as a build up right beforehand.
Yeah, I agree with everything you wrote. Honestly, I defend Haye a lot because I think a lot of people are genuinely biased against him. Things like Wlad saying he'd fight him anywhere and then refusing anywhere but Germany is just wrong to me. Haye deserves praise for making every concession he did and it really bothers me people are so biased, so I tend to defend him a lot on here. That said, I do fault him. I do think that the fight could be bigger, and should be, if it was promoted more than that 8 week gap would allow, but I don't think the fight should fall apart over it. I want Haye to say "**** it, I'll lose a bit more money and knock him out" and get it on anyway. I do fault Wlad though because everything was agreed until he mentioned Chisora. Literally, everything and then, out of the blue, he says he'll fight Chisora. I would be really annoyed if a genuine megafight, a unification and a massive grudge match didn't happen for something which promises to be as one-sided as Chisora/Wlad. It's just not worth it. At some point, Wlad would have been told "Haye may not go ahead, if you fight Chisora so close to the fight" and he should have said "Fine, I'll not fight Chisora" and the fight would be on. And then there's all the stupid **** about Wlad demanding to be in the red corner. Come on. This is playground type nonsense. To me, both are at fault but I blame Wlad more. If he wants to remain active, that's fine and understandable, but there alternatives to the Chisora fight, which may kill this. I just don't think it's worth it. I think the true reason of the Chisora fight, is to run down his RTL contract and use the Haye fight as incentive to get a bigger contract. I can't blame him for that, but I just wish there was more honesty about it.
Two years ago, it was only going to be big in Britain and Germany. HBO would want to show this fight and it has far, far more interest than it did two years ago. The problem with that is, nobody knows who Chisora is in Britain. It's good hype but only for the people who know who he is and the most he's done so far, is appear on a few undercards.
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl Believe me, there's big gap between the no.1 and the no.2 UK heavyweights. no.3 is Tyson Fury ffs! You make it sound like an achievement. Besides, if he fights Chisora, then the fight aint happening, so what is he promoting exactly? I thought it was a tune-up fight first? When did people change their minds and say it was a promotional fight? Clutching at straws to defend yoru boyfriend now? First things first, this fight doesn't need Wlad to fight Chisora to promote it. If that's the reason why then it's the weakest one yet. Chisora is ****ing unheard of in the UK, and fighting him will probably have less impact on promote the fight than going on a single late-night chat-show. The other important thing, that you Klitschko fanboys seem to forget, is that boxing supposed to be a sport, not a form of ritualized violence. There is no sporting element to this whatsoever, Chisora is hopelessly outmatched, and unless he does something crazy and tries biting Klitschko's throat (far more likely than you realize, he's unhinged) he's going to get knocked out. This sort of farce makes boxing look stupid. Even if Haye had never moved up from cruiserweight and challenged Wlad, if this fight was allowed to stand on it's own rather than being part of the Wlad - Haye circus sideshow, it would be ripped apart because it's the worst fight of Wlad's career so far. the 40 year old Ray Mercer who Wlad beat up would beat Chisora. ****ing hell the 50 year old Ray Mercer in the MMA would have a good chance of beating Chisora, never mind 10 years ago! Oliver McCall, aged 45, would beat Chisora. Evander Holyfield. Wlad does not need a tune-up fight, he's an experienced pro with 58 fights behind him, not some novice getting ready for his first title shot. A tune-up fight against Chisora achieves nothing except ruining the Haye fight.
Fury is a bigger name over here, too. He has a bigger following, he's more known by the media and mainstream and he's topped a few good bills. Chisora is way behind him, in terms of interest, even if he is a better fighter which is debatable.
yes, Tyson Fury would be a much better opponent if he wanted to promote the Haye fight. Fighting Michael Sprott would be the best opponent if he wanted a "stay busy" fight because Sprott may be ****, but at least he's experienced and has been involved in some interesting fights over the years. Although it's still a joke fight, at least it's better than letting a 14 fight novice take on the heavyweight champion of the world.
Yeah, I can't disagree. Sprott is a tougher challenge than Chisora, which sounds ridiculous because he's get destroyed but so will Chisora. At least Sprott has a few tricks up his sleeve.
Exactly, if you wanted a tune-up surely it would make sense to fight a guy who has got experience, who can take you 12 rounds and make you shake off the ring rust? Michael Sprott, Matt Skelton (is he still in jail?) or Martin Rogan would be much better choice of opponents. If he wanted to fight to gain exposure in England then Chisora is the last person he should fight. No-one in England has heard of Chisora. Fight Danny Williams, at least people have heard of him, and Danny Williams is a nice guy who could do with the money, not a mentally damaged scumbag wife-beater like Chisora. Ultimately, if Wlad wanted to stay sharp for the Haye fight, just get some good sparring partners and have a 12 week camp like any normal professional would. If he wants to gain exposure go on Paul O'Grady or Johnathan Ross. There's just absolutely no excuse for this joke of a fight, even when you take away the Haye element it's still a travesty of a fight that will make boxing look stupid.
Wlad vs. Chisora can be part of promotion. It is not Haye´s problem, if Wlad wants to fight on 30th of April and again on 2th of july.
Yep, I agree once again. The justification for Wlad/Chisora is that it would be 9 months away from boxing, so Wlad would be rusty. In which case, why fight an absolute pushover? For the Harrison fight, Haye sparred with Thompson in training and I have no doubts that sparring with him, is a better way to be in perfect shape, than fighting a guy who wouldn't last a round if Wlad didn't want him too. Wlad is better off having rough sparring sessions with Banks than fighting Chisora. If the purpose is to get him in shape and lose the ring rust, Chisora isn't the opponent they should be looking at. You mentioned Rogan and he'd be a much better choice.
Apart from the fact that Wlad was injured in training for his last fight and had to postpone it, but now he's doing 2 on the bounce as well as a fight, is fighting a nutjob with history of biting in the ring so is wide open for some crazy, injuring **** to go on. It also leaves wide open cuts etc which Wlad may have to wait to heal (accidental headbutt, lacing etc). Will cost Haye a lot of money through the limited promotion there is a tiny, tiny possibility that Wlad could lose (firstly, if there isn't, why is he fighting Chisora anyway???), even if it is as stupid as tripping and injuring himself, tearing a rotator cuff, or just being unlucky and getting caught. Now, you tell me if Wlad rocking up without the belts, or being injured would have an impact on Haye?
Vlad Vs. Chisora will be mismatch, but Vlad Vs. Haye will be an even bigger mismatch! That is the reality! Haye fans are delusional.
who do you think is a better fighter Farmy, Haye or Chisora? Don't let your emotions get in the way. Be objective.
