I can't claim credit for this line; I'm paraphrasing something posted on another site: "Wlad is so afraid of capitalizing on a KO opportunity that he doesn't use the caps lock on his keyboard".
holyfield is an atg with a .500 or worse record against every decent opponent he faced. unless you want to count shot tyson and shot and old foreman.
He never bothered to work on his defensive skills, keeping his hands up or to develop a wide arsenal of punches. I have never seen him go to the body or throw upper cuts. And the fact that all his losses have occurred against power punchers, these things will be a blot on his record and will be held against him when stacking him against the ATG's.
The 11th aside; in the earlier round when he recovered and got his bearings so quickly and turn the tide immediately after being knocked down that was impressive and showed another quality I didn't think he had Usually when he has been dropped, it's a struggle to survive until the bell-this time he brought it right back at Joshua and landed his own, puttingJoshua on the shaky leg defense
Wlad biggest problem was his (nonexistant) right uppercut. Had he used his right uppercut after his left cross, josua would have been knocked the f out in round 6 or 7. I cant understand why his corner didnt tell him to follow his left cross with his right upper. AJ was begging for being crushed that way.
His chin is not great, some fighter got hit flushed on the chin and got hurt but the legs don't betray them. No disrespect though. His chin is not glass, but the initial left hook landed in round 5 was not that huge of a punch but you can tell Wlad legs and equilibrium betrayed him, so when the opponents brought the heat he usually succumb to the pressure. If you based on this fight, I didn't see him in panic mode. I thought being unbeaten for 11 years and the experience he acquired during that period help him a lot. I saw an awoken old lion after the KD in 5, the one who wanted to take his rival's head off. Both uppercuts in the 11 round would have KO cold majority of heavyweight so I don't hold it against him for failing to survive. It's hard to get out of barrage of punches from a 250 pounds+ puncher when your legs weren't there. Credit to Joshua for pouring it on and took him out.
Wish I could. Probably there's a reason, I'm no genius, so I would like to listen to him talking about what he did and what he would change if he could go back in time to replay the fight.
Floyd resorts to what Wlad does when he gets clipped which is clinching and holding on for dear life.
He didn't panic in this fight. His reaction to the uppercut was to make AJ think he wasn't hurt. Maybe in past fights, but he did not look panicked in this one.
