Knew from day 1 Fury would do it. No way Wlad was going to win tonight. Just a stylistic nightmare of a matchup for him. Fury's reach is longer, Fury is more agile, Fury's head movement is better, Fury was faster, bigger. Just too much to overcome. He can do whatever he wants on the outside and Wlad pretty much had no answers. If he had an infighting game, he could have taken it there. I knew that Wlad's lack of an inside game was going to be his downfall, and of course, we saw it today. Being able to in fight is so important. It's what separates the true elites from just elites. Mayweather's infighting was sensational Ward's Gennady too to a degree Leonard Hagler Duran's ability to swarm/in fight and he could box well as well
sensational thread. i was going to make the same one. how can you beat someone with a longer reach than you hanging out on the outside?atsch his whole team should be shot:deal
I think with Wlad he dealt with someone who was just as good if not better than he is at using his height and reach to benifit himself tremendously. Add in that element of speed and he was able to dominate someone accustomed to dominating. Wlad I think didn't take Fury to seriously and felt he wouldn't be able to use his attributes to his advantage the way he did.
hes just a safety fighter first. he doesnt fight inside. hangs out outside, all fury had to do was use his long arms and counter him. when wlad did throw he missed since fury used his reach well. his sneaky left hook was useless against furys long reach missing badly:smoke
Ironically the pre-steward Wlad would have done better by being more aggressive. But ever since those last 2 devastating losses he's always been a safety first fighter. He's always had an issue of pulling the trigger even in his prime, Steward often criticised him of not throwing enough. Fury fought the right fight against an old Wlad. He kept him on the outside and when faced with a type of fight Wlad has never had to deal with before his lack of inside skills and ability to cut off the ring was apparent. Nothing Wlad has done before prepared for him to be outboxed. When it happened to Lewis against Vitali he was able to switch tactics, Wlad simply lacked that level of versatility. But lets be fair to Wlad, he is old and past his best, he simply didn't have the reflexes anymore to beat Fury last night. Fury won the heavyweight title by only landing 86 punches, that suggests what Fury was facing last night wasn't the Wlad we have seen throughout most of his reign.
GG has never been tested. We don't know how he will react when he's hit and in a give and take fight over 12 rounds.
IN the second half of the fight Fury was working Wlad body really bad Wlad was on the verge of quitting with a few more body shots. IN fact he kept turnign his back illegally to avoid those shots so the referee can break them up.
