What are we thinking the chances are of Klitschko-Ibragimov being made within the next few weeks?

Good I hope. I know he's waiting to fight the winner of the 4 man eliminator, but that will take time as it is 3 fights away (the 4 down to 2, and then the 2) so hopefully he does something meaningful in the meantime.

    Slim and none.

I give Sultan all the props in the world for being willing to take on Chag, but lets not forget that he ducked Wlad to go for Briggs in the first place.

Sultan is a good fighter with confidence and I respect him, but he knows he does not physically match up.

    I hope I am wrong.

This week Wladimir will come to New York talking with HBO to make the fight Klitschko vs. Ibragimov.

Still, you'd think HBO could make something happen if they were given two green lights for a heavy unification that involved Wlad...

i always get more hopeful that a big fight is going to take place when parties invovled go radio silence. when you hear camps clamouring and arguing back and forth in the public domain you know it's mainly hot air being blown up the collective asses of the fans.

the timing is perfect. both fighters will definately be healthy. wlad has zero commitments til late 2008 early 2009. sultan has a mandatory against an unappealing fighter. i mean, seriously as far as financial and historical sense goes for sultan, no one knows tony thompson, and yet unlike the high profiles of briggs and holyfield, thompson would actually be a threat.

so while all logic and signs point to a unification i ain't holding my breath anymore. i get all hopeful only to be let down time and time again.

    BUT! there's always hope!

I thought Wlad had some sort of injury and wouldn't be ready until February/March 2008. Was I wrong?

he did have an injury but it wasn't that serious. more a bruised bone in his left hand i think. the reality is it was probably more politics at play. hbo has only so many slots available and funds to pay for the fights. and to hbo they dont care if they shelve fighters. it's all about their schedule and ratings. they want to spread everything out nice and easy. but in a way this might help wladimir. give his hand a rest, and also co-incide with the winner of holy-ibragimov in feb/march.

i wont care about the delay provided there is a pot of gold on the other side, namely in the form of a unification fight. however, if wladimir cannot get a unification and has to fight a recycled heavyweight or something, then yes i will be pissed off

we should know something in a couple weeks

I don't think the silence means much. The Brewster rematch got about in exactly that way.

Wasn't it the case that HBO wouldn't bankroll another Wlad fight this year, so they were having to wait until 2008 or something...?

Does his contract with HBO state that they have to be involved in each of his fights? I mean a fight with Ibragimov in Russia with "only" European networks broadcasting would be big even without HBO involved and would earn good money. **** HBO and their politics. :yep

They aren't quiet, they already contacted Ibragimov but he's looking like he's going to ***** retire according to his fightnews article.

IMO, this fight would decide who is the new Heavyweight Champion.
