Haye has no ball's he will not fight Wlad anytime soon. I don't think he poses as much of a threat to today's Wlad as most give him credit for.
My main point is that Wlad's chin isn't nearly as horrible as most people say. I mean Lewis did get pummeled in both of his knockout losses and yet you really don't hear anyone ever talking about Lewis as having a weak chin. But every damn day you hear people saying Wlad has a glass chin. Yes I agree that Lewis did take bigger shots. But some of Wlad's KD's and losses were by huge punchers. Peter is a huge puncher and Sanders def was. After all, Sanders managed to hurt Vitali at one point and Vitali truely has an iron chin.
Great post:good Rahman knocked him out COLD with a single punch. Lewis looked like a drunk man, who didn't know where he was, while Emmanuel Steward and Daniel van der Ville tried to pick him up from the canvas
Good points.:good But Vitali def avenges two of his brother's losses. I still think he's fought good competition but you're right, Wlad has def fought better opposition overall. BUT prime for prime I'd pick Vitali in a heartbeat. Vitali has an iron chin coupled with the love for fighting and roughing up on his opponents. I think Vitali would survive Wlad's punches and throw Wlad around the ring until Wlad would be knocked out. Who do you think would win in both of their primes?
I don't think it's untrue that he's chinny but he's not as bad as people make out. He's a bit like Haye in the sense that any heavy contact will put him down but then he often gets up. If he gets hit hard he doesn't recover fast or particularly well though. I think it hurts him infinitely that he has a brother with a granite chin. It makes it hard not to compare him unfavorably.
Wlad clearly doesent have a glass jaw - he just has an average chin. What makes it look worse is that he is clearly worried about it and fights in a very over cautious fashion. Haye is probably similar or slightly worse in the chin stakes, but he's not afraid to open up and engage.
it isn't a myth. He is so big and has such a huge advantage that he is rarely hit clean on the chin. He should be given credit for not letting guys get close to his chin, but that does not have anything to do with ability to take a punch.
I don't remember him being in trouble VS Barrett.....Pannell had him down for the first time in his career.
A clean punch on chin and Wlad's down. Vit has hell of a cheen tho, Vit beats Wlad at cheens. Wlad is just hard to hit, but when hit, he's done. This is what it's all about.
A hook from Chagaev after the bell....i think it was after round 8....not sure....Thompson landed a few times aswell....
Open up and engage he does at HW against completely shot and over-the-hill near 40 year old nobodies. Haye knows he couldn't box that widely-open and wildly swinging against a guy with quick hands like Chambers or a guy with a decent punch and good chin like Peter while with the same style he's at absolutely zero danger against feather-fisted slow motion nobodies like Ruiz and Valuev. Look at who Haye has fought at HW. These guys are all hand picked old have-beens with deteriorating reflexes that allow Haye to box openly while not posing any risk whatsoever to his soft chin. This is not a coincidence, his opponents are hand picked by age, slow reflexes and soft punch. Regarding Wlad's chin I agree with what some other guy posted before. Wlad's chin is definitely not one of his assets, but the question is how does he deal with it? Does he ignore his main weakness or does he create a style that negates his weaknesses and accentuates his strenght? Does he stick his chin out like Haye does? Or does he box a style that doesn't allow him to be easily countered?
Steve Pannel, Williamson was flash KD which has nothing to do with his chin. In pannel fight he was offbalance and Pannel pushed him to the ground, same **** in Williamson fight. If you seen Purrity fight you can clearly see that purrity didn't even hit wlad hard wlad was throwing 100+punches per raound during a fight and was exhausted.
