you know what, I actually did think about it that way and that's why I still rank him in the top 10. A 7'5 boxer would be at a disadvantage because of his height and weight, but also have advantages. Same could be said with Wlad.
Hmm, you are right! Kind of strange to see Joey Maxim, who lost his last 9 fights being ahead of all three :nut Thanks for the enlightenment :good
-Moore, Robinson, Ali, and Louis are 4 of my top 6, so no problem there. -Charles is 11-15 for me, so a little high but I respect that -Monzon is my #10, so cool with me -Langford is probably around 15 for me as well -OK, Canzoneri, Tiger, and Ortiz are just awful picks for the top ten Boxrec is horrible, but I could 100% respect this list if the three I underlined were replaced with Pep, Armstrong, and Duran. There current P4P list is horrible and a better example: -Khan #12, not that off, but clearly a little off -Pascal #10, are you joking? -Cunningham #16, hey I like the guy but hell no -Donaire not in top 25 -Bute #9, WHAT?!?!?
Wlad has always had the advantages but three times he showed that the advantages are not enough. He has improved and is rightfully in the p4p lists.
Can anyone make a thread about how smaller rings would make the sport of boxing more entertaining. If you take a look at Louis vs Carnera for instance, the ring was much smaller which allowed Louis to get Carnera against the ropes. If you want more ACTION in boxing, DECREASE the ring size. People will never want to watch two men in their panties wrestling like homosexuals ever again. Imagine if Marquez had a smaller ring against Mayweather for instance. Or Pac had a smaller ring against Mosley. Marquez vs Mayweather perhaps may have been more competitive, and Pac would have finished Mosley. That's how you make FAN FRIENDLY fights.
I remember the ring in the Sanders/Wlad fight was very small. That was the last exciting fight Wlad was in. I think you have a point.
Right now I think Wlad deserves the 5th spot in the P4P rankings, behind Pacquiao; Mayweather; Martinez and Donaire.
On size: I have Segura in my p4p list. He's not particularly skillful, but if he was a heavyweight he'd be like 7'0 (relatively speaking). His power at that weight is unreal and you cannot hurt him. And he dominates the best out there at that weight. So for me he's an easy p4p choice. Now as he goes up in weight he'll give away his size/power advantage, but the point is that relative to guys his own weight, he's a monster and I regard him as unstoppable. So that translates to p4p for me. I'm heavily biased toward dominance relative to guys your own size, because to me p4p is about "What would happen if everyone weighed the same as everyone yet retained their body type relative to their weight class?" Achievement isn't high on my list unless it's across a bunch of divisions (Manny and Floyd). So Wlad would be a rather short/average-height fighter in a p4p sense because of how muscular he is. Since his style is totally reliant on his height, I can't rank him p4p. Typically if you want to be a tall fighter you have to be skinny, but he can be as big and strong as he wants.
