They try to replicate the relative success UFC had with WMMA among casual fans. The difference though is that women MMA involves grappling and kicks and is not seen as that brutal by default while most people have a problem with women doing nothing but punching each other in the face for several rounds. I don't think it will ever be popular, maybe someone like Claressa becomes a draw for a while but that's it. To be honest I'm glad that in boxing they're not forcing us to watch this the way that the UFC forces us to watch WMMA fights on main cards. Every one of their big events now has some fight between women who don't even know how to throw a jab.
Guess you didn't catch the full Kovalev Vs. Ward undercard, then? Or were Shields and Crews 'throwing pitter-pat shots at each other'..?
Like i said before, the best female boxer of all time is active and no one cares, the most accomplished female boxer in amateur boxing history turned pro the saturday and she wasn't in the main fights of an awful undercard. The ufc put a lot of money on women mma but it's because: -MMA and mostly women mma is a new and growing sports in comparission to boxing, so they are in the same level, in women boxing there is a good fighter and 10 bad contenders. -MMA women are more beautiful than women boxers, sounds ugly but that's the truth, Rousey, Carano and Van Zant are all over tv and movies. -They are treated equally in mma and it's because mma fighters are considerable less expensive than boxers. You can't treat women boxers like men boxers when boxers like Berto are getting millions.
It does sounds sexist but it's true. Nobody gives a **** about womens boxing anymore and they barely ever did. I am a bit surprised that sport hasn't legitimately died like people always say boxing is which it is not
Haven't you heard, bro? Every fight in the UFC the best fight the best. These women are elite! Everyone in the UFC is elite. You just can't appreciate the complex and subtle ferocity that is mma. Perhaps, you should listen to more Joe Rogan. He'll explain it to you.
Woman tennis, ping pong, golf, skating, track and field, etc I can watch. However, contact sports like boxing, basketball, judo, etc I don't see the athletism in it and I tend to compare them to the male game which makes the action pale in comparison.
Braekhus, Persoon, and even Shields throw a spanner in the 'female boxers can't have the same talent as elite males' argument. They're plenty entertaining as well. That said, the majority of lower-level female boxing is hard to watch and the overall talent pool is thin.
Listening to Joe Rogan talking about boxing is more fun. Apparently everyone at HW is ducking Shannon Briggs and running scared.
The same arguments can be made against lower weight men's boxing. Kinda silly to pretend there's some big difference, or imagine distinctions that don't really exist. Personally, I prefer hw men's to all others by far, but I don't begrudge the little men or the women their admirers.
